Ruby E. Mitchell
Services for Ruby Epperson
Mitchell were held Aug. 16 in the
Watson-Hunt Funeral Home with
burial in Huachuca National
Cemetery, Sierra Vista, Ariz.
Mitchell, 74, died Aug. 14.
Bom in Gladys Va., she had
lived in Perry for two years, mov
ing from Brookneal, Va. She was a
homemaker and a Baptist.
Survivors: daughter, Dorrinne
V. Etten of Perry; brothers,
Quinton S. Mitchell Jr. of
Anchorage, Aka., Lloyd Epperson
and Faye Epperson, both of
Lynchburg, Va.. Edward Epperson
of Brookneal, Va., and Maywood
Epperson of Haw River, N.C.; four
grandchildren; and two great
grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family
requests donations be made to the
First Christian Building Fund, P.O.
Box 1512 Perry, Ga., 31069.
Wesley Thomas Sr.
CANTON Services for the
Rev. Wesley A. Thomas Sr. were
held Aug. 17 in Canton First United
Methodist Church with burial in the
Hickory Flat Cemetery. Thomas,
77, died Aug. 15.
He was a member of Canton
First United Methodist Church,
the VFW, the American Legion
and ADBC. He was a Mason,
Shriner and Army veteran who
served in World War 11. He sur
vived the Bataan Death March and
was a prisoner of war a number of
years. He served as chaplain for
the Department of Georgia POWs
and pastored several area church
es.
Survivors; children, Wesley A.
Thomas, Jr. of Dahlonega, the
Rev. John Thomas of Jasper, Ind.,
Dialphia Lanier of Elko and Mary
E. Lee of Rockmart: sister, Myrtle
Pinyan of Canton; and eight
grandchildren.
The family requests in lieu of
flowers, donations be made to the
Canton First United Methodist
Church Building Fund, or to the
Andersonville POW Fund.
John Merle Stanley
Services for John Merle Stanley
were held Aug. 19 at the All Saints
Episcopal Church in Warner
Robins with private burial ser
vices.
Mr. Stanley, a native of Salina
Kan., was retired entomologist at
G. Heileman Brewing Co. He had

ing from Peoria, 111. He was a
graduate of Kansas State
University and a Navy veteran of
World War 11. He was a member of
Illinois Masonic Lodge #263 and
Scottish Rite. He was a member of
the All Saints Episcopal Church in
Warner Robins and a member of
the VFW.
He was the son of the late
Ralph Stanley and Edith Stewart.
Survivors: wife, Margaret
Stanley; daughters, Susan Smith of
Rabun Gap and Gayle Wiens of
Goesscl, Kan.; step daughter,
Elizabeth Hitchman of Kirkland,
Wash.; stepson, David Mahon of
Bellevue, Wash.; six grandchildren.

Agnes J. Daniel
Services for Agnes Jackson
Daniel were held Aug. 19 at the
Watson-Hunt Chapel with burial
in the Evergeen Cemetery in
Athens. Daniel, 78, died Aug. 18.
A native of Clarke County, she
had resided in Perry for four years.
She was the widow of Tom W.
Daniel Sr., who preceded her in
death in April of this year. She was
a homemaker and a charter mem
ber of the St. James United
Methodist Church in Athens.
Survivors: son, Tom Daniel of
Perry; two grandchildren and two
great grandchildren.

Doris Eubanks Giles were held
Aug. 17 at the Pasley-Fletcher
Chapel with burial in the Upson
Memorial Gardens in Thomaston.
She was the daughter of George
Herman Eubanks. Mrs. Giles, 59,
died Aug. 15.
Mrs. Giles were born in Upson
County and lived there most of her
life. She was a member of the
local Retired Citizens Club and
member of Emmaus Primitive
Baptist Church. She was a home
maker.
Survivors: sons, James Gary
Giles of Hawkinsville, George
Russell Giles of Watkinsville;
mother, Mrs. Canola Eubanks of
Thomaston; sisters, Mrs. Agnes
Sullivan and Mrs. Betty Raines of
Thomaston, Mrs. Donna Garret of

Jackson: Support strong for lights

Director Mike Jackson told members of the Perry
Area Chamber of Commerce that enthusiasm for the
Wonderland in Lights show at the Georgia National
Fairgrounds and Agricenter is strong in Perry.
Jackson’s report was part of an Aug. 17 meeting
during which directors looked to the future for the
community and the organization.
Jackson said many businesses in the community
have already signed up to purchase lighting which the
community will use to compliment the 40-night show
at the Agricenter Nov. 20-Dec. 31.
Several thousand visitors are anticipated and
Jackson is heading a chamber committee seeking to
capitalize on the large number of visitors. The down
town area, and commercial areas along Sam Nunn

Skip Dawkins said the nominating committee fofr
1996 officers would be Trudie Warren, Draper
Watson, Tom Daniel, Dawkins and Eddie Wilson.?
The panel will report to directors soon.
Watson told members the economic development,
committee was working to obtain financing for a!
speculative building to be located at the Perry Allied
Business Park.
Watson cited the recent location of a major Indus-,
try to a similar building in Dublin as reason to con-;
struct the building.
The committee is working with a private develop-;
er from Atlanta in hopes that the company may decid-.
ed to build and market the building.
