State taps Meadowdale for pre-kindergarten program

Meadowdale Learning Center
has been selected by the Georgia
Department of Education to par
ticipate in the 4-year-old
prekindergarten program.
Sept. 1 was the first day the
program was in session.
The program is designed to
assure that Georgia’s children
have the very best in early educa
tion and enter kindergarten ready
to leam. The prekindergarten at
Meadowdale Learning Center
provides full-day developmental
ly appropriate, hands-on curricu
lum for four-year-old children.
The instructional program
which includes one certified
teacher and one assistant teacher
in each of the two classrooms, is
free of charge to all families. This
program provides low student
teacher ratios.
The prekindergarten program
is a developmentally appropriate
learning and discovery experi
ence for young children. The cen
ter uses the High/Scope curricu
lum model to provide hands-on,
discovery learning.
Math, science, language arts,
dramatic arts, and creative arts all
find their way into the lives of
County 4-H’ers attend state congress in Atlanta

The major highlight of the
Georgia 4-H year, State Congress,
was held at the Holiday Inn
Crown Plaza in Atlanta, Aug. 8-
11.
Four Houston County 4-H’ers
received top honors at the district
level earning the privilege to
attend State Congress. They were:
Kim Augdahl, a senior at Warner
Robins High School; Bryant
Bledsoe, a junior at Westfield
Academy; Lindsey Etheridge a
sophomore at Perry High School;
and Kathy James a sophomore at
Northside High School. Also rep
resenting Houston County was
Julian Harris, State 4-H President,
who presided over the annual
meeting to complete his year of
service.
The 4-H’ers spent a week in
Atlanta competing in their indi
vidual projects, visiting area
attractions and businesses, and
attending banquets. The week
began with an evening banquet.
After tense competition on
Wednesday, 4-H’ers were treated
to Six Flags Over Georgia. Project
winners were announced at the
ceremony held at the Crystal

Thursday began with a breakfast
banquet and then 4-H’ers traveled
throughout the city on educational
tours to Atlanta attractions and
project donor visits. The excite
ment continued into the final ban
quet on Thursday when State
Project Winners were honored.

place. Lindsey Etheridge compet
ed in the Veterinary Science pro
ject and received 3rd place. And,
Kathy James demonstrated skill in
the Safety Project.
