Ed Corson of the Macon

published the name and city of the
caller. It seemed to work just fine.
On Aug. 28, The Herald pub

Meanwhile, if an agreement
between the city and county could
be reached, the fringe area would
extend one mile beyond the city
limits and give Perry some control
in future growth in that area,
according to representatives of the
firm.
During the Aug. 29 meeting,
Worrall said, “We need to protect
the identity of the city. We should
be doing things like we’re doing
tonight, discussing long-range
planning.”
“The good thing that can come
out of this is that it v/ill serve as a
vehicle to initiate dialogue,” he
said.
“It helps us to sit down and
talk,” agreed Stafford.
The study also looks at the sub
ject of annexation, noting that the
city of Perry has not pursued
annexation in a comprehensive
manner in the recent past.”
Ron Neisler, a firm representa

judges have allowed the 2nd
Congressional District to be
added to the lawsuit. The 2nd
District runs in a zig zag fashion
from Columbus to Macon and
down to Valdosta.
The end result of the present
redistricting will be the same all
the way down to county and city
governments. The same Justice
Department operating blindly
under the same unconstitutional
law forced counties and cities to
zig zag their district lines with
race the motive.
Once again, when you get right
down to the nuts and bolts of the
issue, the real culprit is the Voting
Rights Act which without a doubt
is unconstitutional. As you know,
only a handful of Southern states
are forced to abide by the law.
Our U.S. Congress needs to tack
le the issue and either vote it out
or make it apply to every state in
the nation, or some state, group,
or who ever needs to file a lawsuit
and bring the biased law before
the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, don’t fret should
the panel of judges take on the
task of new district lines as we all
could possibly be better served if
they did.

The study sets guidelines for
annexation priorities.
They are, from most desirable
to least desirable: city owned,
vacant, industrial, commercial,
residential, and marginal quality
land, the latter being listed as
flood plains and wetlands.
Industrial areas are noted for
generating more revenue than res
idential areas.
Stafford noted that develop
ments in the county will have
varying levels of service.
‘They have services but don’t
have to pay city taxes,” added
county management services
director Steve Engle.
Neisler said he sees “more and
more counties relying on sales
taxes.”
“You have a lot of tourists
here,” he added, saying a special
option sales tax is a vehicle to
generate more revenue.
