Thomas went right for 6 yards
and a first down at the Panther 32.
Thomas gained four yards to
the left before he was busted at
the line for a 2-yard loss.
Sophomore quarterback John
Brewer picked up one of his two
completions on the night, this one
a 15-yard effort to Larry Beard,
on the next play.
Brewer missed on the next
pass effort, and Thomas lost four
yards when he jiggled the ball and
had to fall on it.
Brewer attempted a pass from
the shotgun formation before
Quincy Kendrick punted from the
Panther 45.
The Red Jackets failed to move
and punted back. Thomas fielded
the ball at the Perry 36-yard line
and returned the ball 17 yards
before he was caught.
On the first play, Thomas went
straight ahead for no gain before
he dropped the ball on the next
play.
Jacket defensive end James
LaGrand picked up the ball at the
midfield stripe and raced to the
end zone for the second Jordan
touchdown.
Merriweather added the PAT
kick and with 4:25 left in the half,
Jordan led 14-0.
Perry didn’t move the ball on
the next possession, but an inad
vertent early whistle from the ref
eree broke up what could have
been a Perry fumble recovery on
the punt.
Instead of the Panthers getting
the ball at midfield, Jordan got it
and drove quickly to the 9-yard
line where quarterback Jessie
Crawford took a knee with 21
seconds remaining in the half.
Jordan scored almost instantly
in the second half when Antonio
Walker snagged a Brewer pass at
the Panther 2-yard line and tip
toed into the end zone. The PAT
failed, but Jordan led 20-0.
After Perry failed to move the
ball, the Jackets took over follow
ing the punt at the Jordan 46-yard
line. Seven plays later, Crawford
called his own number and
crossed the goal line from the
Perry 1-yard-line.
Again the PAT was no good,
but with 5:13 left in the third
quarter, Jordan led 26-0.
The Jackets scored on their
next possession, an eight-play,
62-yard drive capped by a 20-
yard run by Nick Jackson. The
two-point conversion was good
and Jordan led 34-0.
Midway through the fourth
quarter, the Panthers took over on
downs at the Perry 19-yard line.
Atavis Taylor picked up 12
yards before Thomas gained a
yard. Jordan interfered with a
Brewer pass to give Perry first
down on the Panther 47.
Brewer scrambled to his right
for six yards before Thomas
zigged and zagged through the
Jacket backfield for 25 yards and
a first down at the Jordan 17-yard
line.
Taylor went straight ahead for
four yards before Brewer missed
on a pass.
Thomas again zigged and
zagged, this time for three yards
to set up a fourth-and-two at the
Jacket 10-yard line. Brewer found
Thomas with a pass for the touch
down. The PAT was good and the
scoring was done with 2:42
remaining in the game.
The Panthers are off this week
Pain may be
eliminated
for millions
(SPECIAL) - A new drug has been
approved that is exciting research
ers in the treatment of pain. The
material has been formulated into a
new product known as "Arthur
Itis™" and is being called a "Medi
cal Miracle" by some, in the treat
ment of debilitating conditions such
as arthritis, bursitis, rheumatism,
painful muscle aches, joint aches,
simple backache, bruises, and more.
Although the mechanism of action
is unclear, experiments indicate that
Arthur Itis™ relieves pain by first
selectively attracting, and then de
stroying the messenger chemical
which carries pain sensations to the
brain, thus eliminating pain in the
affected area. Arthur Itis™ is an
odorless, greaseless, non-staining
cream and is available immediately
without a prescription and is guar
anteed to work. Um only •• directed.

Demons to continue winning ways against Northeast
By PHIL CLARK
Times-Journal Sports
Picking the outcome of football games can be
a challenging thing. It's particularly hard at the
beginning of the high school season because you
never know what all the schools will have return
ing. and who is rebuilding. But it's challenging
and it's exciting to follow the sport.
Last week, we had three misses and the
Westfield-Tattnall tie. That's not bad for the first
week, but hopefully things will get better. One of
the misses was the Northside-Griffin game in
which I had picked the Eagles. Northside blew a
two-touchdown fourth quarter lead and lost the
game by one point 35-34.
Let's get right down to this week's games.
Warner Robins is back in action after a week's
rest. They played earlier in the Corky Kell
Classic, beating Marietta 9-6 in the first-ever
meeting between the two schools. They are rest
ed and ready to take on Northeast Macon, a 14-
13 winner over Mays Atlanta last week.
The Raiders won just two games all of last
year and don't appear ready to play with the big
boys. Phil's pick. Warner Robins.
Defending Class AAAA state champion
Colquitt County will be playing a Thomasville
team for the second straight week. Last week
they lost to defending Class AAA champion
Thomas County Central.

Carolina near Bulloch County.
This week, it's Thomasville High, under new
coaeh Jack Johnson who w ill try to right a pro
gram that's heading South fast. The Bulldogs lost
to Class A defending champion Brooks County
last week, and it won't gel better this week. Phil's
pick. Colquitt County.
Valdosta bids for yet another state champi
onship as they try to fight off the effects of a state
title game loss to Colquitt last year. They open
with six straight games at home, the second of
them is Camden County this week.
Camden is coached by Jeff Caldwell, one of
the brightest young coaches in the state, but at
Valdosta, he'll find the going tough. Phil's pick.
Valdosta.
Dodge County will be at Dublin this week.
The Indians opened w ith a 34-0 win over Telfair
County. Dublin beat West Laurens. Dublin made
it to the title game last year, and will be strong
again under Sam Barrs, an outstanding coach.
Phil's pick. Dublin.
Peach County opened with a 33-0 blanking of
Houston County and will play Ware County in
Wavcross this week. Ware County is in Class
AAAA now. but not quite ready to be a prime
time player. Peach will challenge for the title in
AAA. Phil's pick. Peach County.
Sumter County w ill be at Macon County. Too
bad! Though the Rams did win last week, beat
ing Terrell County 19-6. they must face one of
Hornets in need-to-win situation
By PHIL CLARK

The Westfield Lady Hornets
find themselves in a need to win
situation Thursday as they meet
Southland in a region 1-AAA
softball doubleheader at the
Hornets' Nest.
After coming back to win the
second game of a twin bill with
Windsor last Tuesday. Westfield
then dropped a. pair of tough
ones to Stratford's Lady Eagles
to drop to 1-3 in the region.
Wins over Southland would
even the Lady Hornets' region
record. Westfield earlier beat the
Lady Raiders in the pre-season
invitational tournament.
In the first game of the
Windsor doublehcader.

region contenders as the Lady
Knights scored eight runs in the.
fourth and five more in the sixth
on the way to a 17-1 blowout.
But in game two. Westfield
jumped on Windsor star pitcher
Sheri Lougc for six first-inning
runs to erase a 3-0 Windsor lead
and then went on to hold off the
Lady Knights, though getting a
slight scare in the fifth as
Windsor scored three to close 8-
7.
The team wasn't as fortunate
at Stratford, though. After drop
ping the first game 8-2 while
making a half dozen errors, the
Lady Hornets then couldn’t get a
clutch hit with runners on base
and dropped the nightcap 1-0.
The Lady Hornets are 6-3 over
all. 1-3 in the region.
the most physical defensive teams in Class A
football, and with Macon County's state-leading
34 straight regular season string on the line, don’t
look for a Ram's upset.
Macon County comes off a 36-0 win over Tri-
County. the 50th regular season win in 51 tries
under C.B. Cornett. The Bulldogs have now shut
out 10 of their last 13 regular season opponents
and have allowed just 18 points over that span.
Any questions? Phil's pick. Macon County.
Last year. Hawkinsville won two games, beating
D.F. Douglass and Dooly, who one just once each.
They did tie Tri-County, this week's opponent.
The game w ill be played in Hawkinsville. and
Ronnie Royston will have his team ready for
their first win of the year after losing the opener
to Bleckley County. The Red Devils won't beat
the world this year, but they will win some
games, starting Friday. Phil's pick. Hawkinsville.
Mary Persons is set to win number 316 for
Dan Pitts. Wilkinson County has never beaten
the Bulldogs, and won't start this week. Phil’s
pick. Mary Persons.
Perry and Westfield both take the week off
before games next weekend.
Houston County wants to rebound from the
Peach County loss, but must face a tough
Greene-Taliaferro team. Phil's pick. Greene.
We also like Tattnall over Windsor and
Southland to beat Southwest Georgia.
