Perryans consume
2.5 million gallons
of water per day
Capacity is 5 million gallons
By RICK JOHNSTONE
Special to the Times-Journal
If you ever wondered just how
much water residents in the city of
Perry consume on an average day,
wonder no more.
Harold Deal of the city’s gas,
water and sewer services department
answered that and other questions at
the Perry Exchange Club meeting
Dec. 14.
He said an average 2.5 million
gallons is pumped daily, far below
the capacity of 5 million gallons.
“We are in good shape with our
water capacity,” Diehl commented.
“All of our water comes from deep
wells.”
The first public water well went
on line back in 1895. according to
the city official. As a result of that,
the first volunteer fire department in
Perry started right after that.
The oldest water tank currently
serving the city is located by the
National Guard armory, Deal said.
The newest such structure was built
in 1987.
