VFW Post 6126 celebrates anniversary offounding of post

Members of the Walter B. Whitten VFW Post
6126 celebrated the 50th anniversary of the local post
with a dinner April 25, at the Post, located off U.S. 41
S.
The Post was chartered on March 14, 1946, with
71 members, and with Jerry A. Davis Jr. as the first
commander.
Joe Gayle, present Commander, announced the
Post had received the Golden Anniversary Award
from the state VFW organization, in recognition to
the local anniversary.
Gayle also presented a plaque to Frank Tolbert for:
“distinguished service, and friend of Walter B.
Whitten VFW Post 6126.” Tolbert sold steak sand
wiches for the Post.
Charter members present on this occasion were:
B. Cullen Talton, Harris Chapman, Norlis C. “Skeet”
Chapman, T.F. Hardy, Luther Mosteller, Watt Rainey,
Ralph Tabor and Barnette Hunt.

have been selected recently to
serve on a special committee to
provide feedback to Governor
Miller concerning economic
development strategy for the state
of Georgia. The committee will
meet in Atlanta on June 13 to
share ideas as to how communi
ties throughout Georgia can be
successful in their economic
development activities.
