Perry High students to hold
prayer rally at flag pole Sept . 20
By Jj JOHNSON
Times-Journal Editor
Students at Perry High School
are expected to join other stu
dents from around the country
rallying at their school flag poles
early Sept. 20.
According to Charlie Walker,
Perry High counselor and spon
sor of the Prayer Club, as many
as 100 students are expected to
attend the 7:30 a.m. rally at the
main flag pole on campus.
“Last year we had about 70
students. Many are members of
the Prayer Club on campus.
Others are simply active in their
churches in the community,”
Walker said.
Because the event is hosted
by and sponsored by students,
Walker is serving simply as an
advisor to the group. Giving him
a helping hand is Bobby Nix,
minister of Christian education
at Perry First Baptist Church.
“We simply serve to advise
them in this effort,” Nix said.
“They plan the program, which
includes a brief gathering to
offer prayer for the school, the
students and the administration.”

Fellowship Hall following A love offering is being collected
for the Wood family which includes father Larry (second

remarks to the congregation, Wood quoted from Paul’s let
ter to the Philippians (Phil. 4:9 “The things which you
learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do,
and the God of peace will be with you.”

A brief devotional is also part

Clark, spokesman for the national
See You At the Pole organization.
The 1995 rally drew an esti

gathering in history, Clark said
in a news release.
The rallies began near Dallas.
Texas, and have spread to every
state in the nation, Clark said.
He said the rallies meet the
guidelines for religious organi

issued by Richard Riley, U.S.
