Funding for the newspaper project came from donations and grants. The estate of Alice L. Gilbert (former Perry Librarian) and a grant from Flint Energies Foundation funded the digitization of the newspaper along with permissions granted by the Houston Home Journal.

Window tint law
enforced in Perry
Free check Saturday
By EMILY JOHNSTONE

The Perry Public Safety
Committee, made up ol council
men Charles Lewis. Ralph
Gentry and Bobhv Glover, decid
ed to stand by their man. Police
Chic! George Potter, during a
meeting ol that group March '
This follows a study conduct
ed by the committee regarding
side window tint laws put into
place by the State ol Georgia and
enforced by the Perry Police
Department
During a Feb 17 council
meeting, several residents voiced
their concern that window tint
enforcement in Houston County
is not uniform
While the Perry department
and the Georgia State Patrol use a
digital tint meter to register levels
of window lint, the Houston
County Sheritl's Department and
Warner Robins Police
Department use a method that
involves an individual reading ol
a card
Potter told council that the
hand-held digital meter is a more
accurate method, as the machine
registers the number and the
reading is not dependent upon
individual determination ot a
reading
The Public Safety Committee
agreed to support Potter in the
department's use ol the digital
meter
Use of the new meters by the
Perry department began in
January
In a memo to his officers, the
chief said "With your salety in
mind and with the assistance ol
these new tools, you will imme
diately begin a rigid enforcement
campaign.”
Any vehicle with a window
tint reading ol 0-24 percent will
be ticketed. No warnings will be
issued, he added
Promotion of officer safety is
one reason Potter would like to
sec the law strictly enforced
"My decision in the purchase
of these devices encompassed the
need for enhanced officer safety
as well as compliance with
Georgia statues." Potter told his
officers.
Cost for the meter device is
about SIOO each.
Judge David Pierce has been
given certifications for the
devices and given a demonstra
tion of their performance, said
Potter
Pierce said he would accept
the readings of the digital tint
meter as evidence in court hear
ings. added the Chief
A free check of window tint
will be held on March 14. at the
police station.
