P.A.L. volunteers will distribute gifts and food Dec. 19

As many as 1,000 persons in the south
Houston County area will benefit from
Project Agapl Love this Christmas.
P.A.L. volunteers will distribute food
and toys for the needy Dec. 19. 9 a m.-6
p.m Items will be available for pickup at
the former Carpet and Rugs store at 1440
Sam Nunn Blvd. in the Sports Center
shopping center.

The busiest weekend of
Christmas at the Crossroads activi
ties will be Dec. 5-6.
Highlights of the weekend
include the annual Christmas
parade, the Kiwanis pancake
breakfast and the community wor
ship service at the Houston County
Courthouse
The weekend begins with the
annual Peny Kiwanis Club pan
cake breakfast Dec. 5 at the County
Extension Building. 733 Carroll St.
The serving line opens at 7 a.m.
and continues through 10 a.m.
Breakfast will cost $3 Money
raised will he used for various pro
jects in the community including
D.A.R.E.. P.A.L., Read A Book,
and Meals on Wheels
Each breakfast includes freshly
cooked pancakes, sausage and
orange juice. The pancakes will be
cooked on a rotating cooker that
can cook up to 30 pancakes at a
time. Approximately 500-600 peo
ple will be served at the breakfast
according to Kiwanis Club
President Jo Crumpacker.
“You get to talk to so many peo
ple. You really get to visit with
neighbors and friends and of course
get to smell the food cooking,"
Crumpacker said of the event. For

The Peny Christmas parade
begins at 2 p.m. Dec. 5. The route
begins at Kellwood Drive and will
end along Main Street near the
Houston County Board of
Education office.
The parade will be led by the
Perry High School AFROTC Color
Guard and will include several
types of floats, vehicles, walking
groups, the Perry High School
Pride of the Crossroads Marching
Band, Cheerleaders, clowns, fire
trucks, and Santa Claus according
to Julie Schmader of the Perry Area
Chamber of Commerce.
“We look forward to the parade
growing. It seems to get bigger
every year” said Chris Kinnas,
president of the Peny Chamber.

Service in Perry begins at 7 p.m

Houston County Courthouse
Participants will leave their
churches about 6:30 p.m. and meet
at the County Courthouse to wor
ship together. Candles will passed
out to the crowd as they amve.
Pastors will step forward to have
their candles lit and in turn will
light candles for those near them.
Each will turn and light candles
until all of the candles are lit. A brief
message will follow and all candles
