Funding for the newspaper project came from donations and grants. The estate of Alice L. Gilbert (former Perry Librarian) and a grant from Flint Energies Foundation funded the digitization of the newspaper along with permissions granted by the Houston Home Journal.

PHS students
selected for
Honor Band
Recently, three Perry High
School Band members were
selected for and attended the
Columbia College All-Female
Honor Band clinic in Columbia,
S.C.
Susan St. Charles, Lianne
Heller and Bethany Cooper were
nominated by their band director
Joe Hutcheson for this honor.
“Each of these girls have
shown a great deal of commit
ment and talent. This trip not
only shows off what Perry has but
it is also a great reward for hard
work they have put in." said
Hutcheson.
While at the clinic, the girls
rehearsed for two days under the
direction of Virginia Allen, a well
know conductor for Virginia. A
concert was gi\ ion Sunday.

Jim Moore
Bank of Perry names
senior vice president
Jim Moore of Carroll County
has been named Senior Vice
President of the Bank of Perry.
He has been in the position since
mid-January.
Moore has an extensive back
ground in baking, having most
rccendy served as senior cred ito
officer of Regions Bank of
Carroll County.
He has been active in the
Rotary Club and Exchange Club,
and has served as president of the
Marshall County Chamber of
Commerce.
A Major in the Tennessee
National Guard, he received his
degree in agriculture from the
University of Tennessee before
graduating from the Louisiana
State University Banking School
of the South in 1993.
He and his wife, Sue have two
sons, ages 6 and 4. They will be
moving to Perry.
The Bank of Perry, founded in
1889, is Houston County’s oldest
bank. It is an affiliate of Persons
Banking Company, with assets of
approximately S2OO million.
Persons also has banking offices
in Lithonia, Conyers and
Swainsboro.
Womens car safety
and maintenance
course offered
A car maintenance and safe
ty seminar for women will be
held at the Middle Georgia
Technical Institute in Warner -
Robins.
The seminar is sponsored by
HODAC’s Victim Resource
Center, the Warner - Robins
Police Department and the
Middle Georgia Technical
Institute.
Topics being covered will
include Dasic car maintenance,
emergency items for trips, how
to avoid mechanic scams and
personal safety while driving.
The seminar will be neld
from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
