Hay House ‘Secret Gardens Tour’ visits six gardens May 1-2, gardeners and lovers of gardens will have a special opportunity to visit six of the most exquisite gardens in the Rivoli and Forsyth areas of Macon during the sixth annual Hay House Secret Gardens Tour. Deidra Collins Stewart, chair person of the tour and daughter of Charles and Mabel Collins, suggests that “This tour is a beau tiful way to learn more about the Macon area while providing sup port for Hay House.” Tour registration will be in the Rivoli Crossing Shopping Center behind First Libert)' Bank along Forsvth Road. Participants will receive a complimentary program book with a map of the area and detailed garden descriptions. The self-guided tour is open from 10 a.m*. until 6 p.m. on May 1 and from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. Mav 2. Tickets are SlO if purchased before April 30 at Fickling &. Co. in Macon and Warner Robins, or at Sun Trust Bank branches in Bibb and Houston counties. They arc having a large rummage sale May 1 from 8 a.m. to noon in the parking lot of Stanley Discount Furniture. There will be lots of great items and a table of deli cious homemade baked goods. The sale will benefit local chari ties and community services. ••• May 5 is the last day before summer vacation to make Miracle Pads for Hospice cancer patients. 9 to 11:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church Perry. Bring a buddy. ••• Relay for Life lt’s about being a community that takes up the fight. Just so you’ll know who the 1999 Perry relay teams are so you can help them raise funds for the fight against cancer, here’s the list: Perry First Baptist Church, Perry P resbyterian Church, Houston Lake Baptist Church, Perry United Me "Hist Church, Perry Elementary School, Kings Chapel Elementary School, Morningside Elementary School, Perry High School, The Bank of Perry, CB&T Bank, Perry Hospital, City of Perry, Perry Kiwanis Club, Creckwood Neighborhood Watch, Just Visitin With Joan Dorsett Ridgewood Park and Cheshire Place Neighborhood Watch, ALLTEL, Harvey’s, Kroger and the Northrop Grumman Corp. These groups will walk around the track at Perry High during the evening and night of May 14, and the morning of May 15. Each participant will raise funds for the American Cancer Society. If you are a cancer survivor, plan to join Perry Mayor Jim Worrall and Chairman, Perry Unit, American Cancer Society Miriam Musick in the survivor’s lap at 7 p.m May 14. Honor or remember a loved one with a $5 luminary to be lit during the luminary service at sundown. The public is invited to attend the Relay for Life at the Perry High School football field and enjoy the entertainment and sup port the cause. • •• Gini English of The Heather at Houston Take did double duty in Washington, D.C. recently. The main purpose of her trip was to accompany her daughter, Andrea English, who will receive her master’s degree in cell biology from the University of Georgia in December. Andrea had been asked by her professor to present her extensive work in cancer research at the International Immunology Symposium. The Continental Congress for the Daughters of the American Revolution just happened to be occurring at the same time. Gini was able to attend the opening ceremony at Constitution HaD and the Georgia Luncheon at the Capitol Hilton Hotel. The duo also found time to sightsee and to dine in a city they loved which still had some yoshino cherry trees abloom. ••• April 20 was the annual busi ness meeting of Perry Kiwanis Club at which the slate of officers for the year 1999/2000 was read. Kiwanians will participate as a relay team at the Relay for Life May 14 in memory of Hugh Lawson Jr. and in honor of Jim Worrall.
