more "liberal" position. Seems they're always
the scapegoats, doesn't it? "In loco parentis"
lives on in a small way yet.
Well, it hasn't been all that long since I was
underage. I never attempted to buy alcohol
before I turned 21 and became magically ligal
in all 50 states. Oh, once in Ohio, where the
drinking age for beer was 18,1 bought one in
a resturant... just to celebrate my legalness,
as it were. Actually my Dad or maybe My
Uncle Archie bought it for me. It was in
Stow,Ohio,in 1968.1 felt that I was in the
middle of something terribly "wrong"-- not
my action, but the whole doggone "system"
that made the consumption of alcohol at age 19
a criminal act.Yeah, I digree; but what's Ort-
writing without digression? I am really
thankful that 18- year-olds are allowed in
clubs to see music: the fact that this city is
one of the major outputs of progressive music
in this country is no sercet. I commend, in
absentia, the wisdom of our governing body
meansd that fake i.d.’s are less necessary here
than in, say, Nashville, where nearly
everyone I know under 21 has one - not to
buy alcohol, but to be able to hear music. Hey,

when has gone to hear music in and of itself
become a heinous crime?
Shrill voices won't help accomplish great
change: gentle pressure helps alot more. The
adage that the squeaking wheel is the one that gets
the greese rings only partially true; truer yet is
the one that says that you can kill a lot more files
with honey thjan you can with vinegar. Maybe
we should rejoice in being in Athens, folks...we
could all sure think of a lot of places that would
be alot worst. Sure, Athens has its shortfalls, but
where else would you be able to hear much
mostly original music any night of the week (but
Sunday, and there's no excuse for all -ages places
not being open Sunday nights during the summer
anyway) in a city anything like this size 7 Hey,
New York we aren't but who wants to get
swallowed up like Jonah inside a whale? This is
Georgia's classic City, and even though it's quite
traditional(as the saying goes), I find it quite
progressive, even if it's in its own way.
Keep playing folks...Igor Stravinsky was right
...there are a lot more notes out there that
deserve to be played that haven't even been
thought of yet. Keep thinking. And, bartender-
keep those odd brands of beer coming, would ya?
