endary Athens song master returns to
the Watt 1 ChesnutUs latest effort is titled
The Salesman And Bernadette
(Capricorn). If you dont Know about this

FIVE STYLE (40 Watt) Guitarist Bill
Dolan (Heroic Doses), drummer John
Herndon (Tortoise), bassist LeRoy Bach
and organist/percussionist Jeremy
Jacobsen (Lonesome Organist) formed
this instrumental ’post-rock’ project in
Chicago in 1994. The groups excellent
new album, Miniature Portraits (Sub
Pep), is a funky hybrid of Canbbean
styles, jazz and art-rock. Opening tor

ODE TO ABBEY (Tasty World) Local
rock trio whose sound resembles the
more sophisticated post-grunge. The
band is finishing a new album at Nickle
& Dime studio in Atlanta and has a
song featured on a compilation from
SPA Records titled Without U&l.

THE POSSIBILITIES (Caledonia) One
of Athens' finer rock trios can boil a pop
song down to the bare bones and kick it
around like beer-crazed mods on a tear
through the rxk & Roll Hall Of Fame.

electroacoustic pop-rock quintet cele
brates the release of its debut five-song
EP disc. Opening for VoL
“SANTANA TRIBUTE" (Georgia
Theatre) An ‘all-star’ line-up including
members of Squat, King Daddy Zeb,
Widespread Panic and many others will
play a slew of songs from the classic

veteran Athens roots-rock band has re
grouped once again with songwriter Bill
Mallonee still front and center with
drummer Kevin Heuer and bassist Jake
Bradley alongside. The band's recent
album, Audible Sigh, is a twangy and
soulful collection produced by alt-
country guru Buddy Miller (Steve Earl.
Emmytou Hams).
WUNDERKIND (Tasty World) This
local rock quartet's new album. Hello
My Name, neatly marries the romance
and aggression of guitar-rock with the
vulnerability of youthful expression
and sounds a bit like a giddy Husker
Du.

Boston in 1992 and plays a spirited mix of
sweet-tempered alternapop and tangly

GOLIN (Chip's) Blues singer-guitarist
’Steady Rollin’’ Bob Margolin spent
seven years as a member of Muddy
Water's band, then struck out on his
own and has carved out quite a
respectable career as the torch earner of

DRIVE-BY TRUCKERS (Caledonia)
One of the shining stars of the Athens
rock scene. Singer-guitarist Patterson
Hood and gang iust finished months of
grueling touring and hope to release
the band's third album. Alabama Ass

EMMA GIBBS BAND (Allen's) A six-
piece bluegrass-rock band out of
Winston-Salem, that evenly blends
musical elements of country and folk
styles and H.O.R.D.E.-approved vibes
with contemporary pop songwriting
and with pleasing results. The new
self-released album, SevenEven. was
recorded and produced by Athens’ own
John Keane and features fiddle playin'
from Dave Blackmon. (Panic, BTU's).
GUIDED BY VOICES (40 Watt) The
Ohio underground rock phenoms
return to Athens behind its most recent

Mammoth Records in March.
S.M.O. (Tasty World) This local rock
band has indeed established itself in
the region with a hard-hitting guitar-
powered sound infused with funk and
soul. The quartet recently released
Living Instrmenl. a solidly-produced.
