Attempt to provide as many answers as possible. Begin... now. I strongly defend my own opinions as a rule. Spiders don't particularly frighten me, 1 am satis fied with my sex life. The future seems hopeless to me. I am fascinated by fire. I feel tired a good deal of the time. I like repairing a door latch. Sometimes I'm sure other people can tell what I'm thinking. The future often seems to hold no sur prises for me. I often feel as though there is a tight metal band constricting my head. I have never taken anything that didn't belong to me. I'm going out of the room now, but III be back. I have little hope for the future. Mister Law Industries, an enigma-shrouded Athens art conglomerate "specializing in the destruction of urban myth," is pleased to announce the opening of 1942 Gallery And Electric Tattooing at 651 W. Broad St, next to Screeners in the back of the parking lot The aes thetic snowball gets rolling on Tuesday, June 6 with "The D-Day Invasion," a chance to gawk at local artwork and maybe even feast on J.B.'s famous "Art And War" Polish sausage-dogs. More info at misterlaw@hotmaU.com Athens artists Deacon Brody and Nathan Sheppard will hear their music featured promi nently in the film Blue Ridge Foil, a celebration of the foibles of youth featuring Amy Irving, Chris Isaak, Tom Arnold and Peter Fachineili. The film was just released on video and showcases the writing and directing talents of one James Rowe, who reportedly shares a last name and a treasure- trove of childhood memories with Deacon Brody's guitarist. The fine folks at the once and future Athens-based label Kindercore Records have released the pro jected lineup for the Kindercore Expo 2000 Athens, which includes Japaneses, Masters Of The Hemisphere, Of Montreal, From Bubblegum To Sky, Kincaid, The Kings Of Convenience, C.A.R., Dressy Bessy, The Essex Green, Great Lakes, Marshmallow Coast, Junior Varsity, The Sunshine Fix, I Am The World Trade Center, The Four Comers, Sleeping Flies, Summer Hymns, VMS Or Beta, Lady bug Transistor, and Tullycraft. All the twee action goes down on Tuesday, August 8 through Saturday, August 12 at the fabu lous 40 Watt Club, Five-day passes are available at kindercore.com for a cool 30 samoteans, which, if you do the math and you've got the sta mina, is a much better deal than any three of the aforementioned bands on a Friday night. In other cinematic news, Lion's Gate Films is releasing the big-screen dramatization of Denis Johnson's dark, musty and engrossing novel Jesus' Son later this summer. The film stars Samantha Morton, Jack Black, Denis Leary, Holly Hurtter, and Dennis Hopper (who, for the Tscord, probably didn't have quite as hard a time of it in Junior High School as Johnson and Leaiy). The soundtrack features new material from Joe Henry and Wilco alongside period classics from Joe To, Tommy Roe, Barbara Mason, Sgt Barry Sadler, and others. The film touches down on Friday, July 7. Mammoth Records gets things warmed up with the soundtrack, which hits the racks on Thursday, June 27. Aberdeen (the band that pretty much is the Athens slow-core scene at this point) is thinking of changing its moniker to Isabel, after becoming privy to the existence of a holy host of other Aberdeens all over this great nation. The name change could benefit the band greatly. I mean, think about it, would you rather have your CD in the "Misc, I" section of the record store or that great retail ghetto "Misc. S."? No one actually looks at everything in Misc. S, but Misc. I is leaner and meaner, putting you in company with a few proud, vowel-embracing artists. Anyroad, stay tuned: the band has also been recording and might be cooling things off for us Later this summer in one way or another. In related news, Aberdeen add Modfathers time keeper Lucas Jensen is assembling vocal talent for Wurtitier, a new project under his own Big Gray umbrella. Instrumental tracks for the album consist entirely of Wuriitzer organs and pianos, and Jensen hopes to showcase a separate singer for each number in the manner of head Magnetic Field Stephin Merritt's side-project The 6ths. Godfathers of unpretension NRBQ are slated to play Atlanta's Echo Lounge on Thursday, June 1. The Classic City's insurgent hellraisers Barbara Cue wilL "close" the show. AthFest is currently selling advance wristbands at reduced prices. One-day bands are $7 advance, $10 during the festival, two-day bands are $12 advance, $15 during the festival, which runs from Thursday, June 22 through Sunday, June 25. Advance prices are good through June 21. Wearers can look forward to unlim ited access to all participating venues during Friday's and Saturday's "club crawls," subject to the venues' age and capacity restrictions. The two-day bands also entail free admission to the Eyeball Music Video Showcase (Thursday, June 22 at the 40 Watt Club) and the Georgia Mountain Stage (Sunday, June 25 at the AMF), not to mention half-price admission to the Flagpole Athens Music Awards cn Thursday, June 22 at the Morton Theatre.
