He works feverishly on such projects as an autobiographical documentary tilled Northwestern snti horror flicks such as Coven and The Mors The Saner Ilf but mishandles his money and foolishly hires his sloned triends to run the cam eras and local amateur actors to memo- riiB hi$ scripts. This is reportedly a very funny and bittersweet film about Mark's life. his friends, his family, his films and his dreams. Directed and photographed by Chris Smith. This is the Athens pre miere! (Georgia Theatre^ BK5 MOMMA S HOUSE (PG-13) Known tor his wacky brand ol comedy on the Fox Network sitcom "Martin," Martin Lawrence takes things a few steps further in this crude new comedy about a slick city detective who goes “deep under cover' as an obese, rural Georgia grandmother. As ’Big Momma," he kicks ass in karate class, slam dunks on the basketball court, boogies hard in church and delivers a baby wilh unconventional methods. This is a derivative comedy consisting of little more than a continuous string of gags and one-liners revolving around the same joke, bul audiences are howling anyway. Eddie Murphy did it much better in ins Nutty Professor. With Paul Giamatli, Nia Long and Jascha Washington. {Beechwood, Carmike) BLACK AND WHITE (R) Writer-director James Toback’s raw urban drama locks more tike a gritty rough draft aimed al shocking its audience than a fully developed look at race, sex, crime and hip hop in modern America. Told in parallel stories, the film roughly follows groups of white high schoolers from New York’s Upper East Side and the real-deal hip hop black Harlemites they’re trying lo emulate. The true-life story follows a struggling, twice- divorced single mom (Julia Roberts) who lands a job at a small legal lirm and (inds herself tackling a direct-action lawsuit against a major public utilities company that is polluting a nearby town wilh toxicchromium.
