EVGENY RIVKIN UGA professor and world-class pianist Evgeny Rivkin is the featured performer at the next "2nd Thursday Concert" sponsored by the UGA School of Music. FOLK FEST PREVIEW The Athens Folk Music & Dance Society presents its monthly "Hoot!" This month's event is a "North Georgia Folk Festival Preview" to showcase performers from the upcoming North Georgia Folk Festival scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 21 at Sandy Creek Park. Performers include Maggie Hunter and Katie Ford, of the Warblers; Vaudeville frontman Don Chambers playing traditional and orig inal songs on banjo and guitar; Tommy Jordan and Friends playing traditional old-time music; and Horsefeathers, a folk trio with William Tonks, George Norman (of Calliope Fair) and Edward Hunter (fiddler for Blueground Undergrass). TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD Town & Gown Players opens its 48th season with the classic Southern drama, To Kill A Mockingbird. Based on the novel by Harper Lee and dramatized by Christopher Sergei, the play cen ters around the trial of a black man accused of attacking a white girl in a small Southern town. The honorable and fair-minded lawyer Atticus Finch defends him, and Finch's two children, Jem and Scout, learn some valuable lessons about growing up. EVENTS GEORGIA COMPOSERS The UGA School of Music pre sents a concert of works by three contemporary Georgia composers. Gerald Farmer, Larry Frazier and Carol Gingrich will peiform selected works by Daniel Taddie, Tommy Joe Anderson, Brent Weaver and Roger Vogel. KUDZU FILM FESTIVAL The 2000 Kudzu Film Festival is a four-day competitive festival that showcases fea ture films and short films in all genres. PAWS FUND-RAISER The Clarke Central High School Fall Festival features The Humane Society Club's fund raiser for PAWS (Pets Assistance and Welfare Society). There will be a giant yard sale and "Walk4PAWS," a three-mile walk through Five Points for people and their dogs (must be leashed). Prizes for humans and dogs. PAWS also sponsors an adopt-a-thon with lots of lovable puppies, dogs, kittens and cats. Dog wash behind the school runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost: S5.
