Second Annual

40 WATT CLUB . .
285 West Washington Street
Wednesday, June 22, 8 p.m.
Tickets: $10, $5 w/ AthFest wristband
Ages 18 & up
“Laughfest," the official AthFest comedy showcase, continues in 2011
with a new venue and a heavier hitting lineup. This year's show will fea
ture nationally touring headliner Dan Telfer. Starting as an improviser at
Chicago’s I0 Theater when he was 18, Telfer spent the next several years •
doing long-form improv, writing'
high-concept political-mythol
ogy plays with Theater Oobleck
and doing solo performances at
the Live Bait Theater. Throwing
all of these hats into the stand-
up ring, Telfer later spun whim
sical flights of fancy with stories
from his quirky life. He became
a fixture of Chicago's Lakeshore
Theater, where he opened for
Paul F. Tompkins, Patton Oswalt
Janeane Garofalo and many
more, until he was booked
as a headliner himself. Maria
Bamford and Brian Posehn went
on to take Telfer on the road as
their featured opener.
Paste magazine dubbed Telfer
the “Best of What's Next” and
later listed him as one of the “10 Best Comedians of 2010.” In April of
2010, Telfer was featured on the front page of The Onion, which said he
was “hitting Chicago's comedy glass ceiling." Telfer is currently tour
ing to promote a new podcast for The Onion A.V. Club. Athenians may
have caught his last performance in town opening for Patton Oswalt two
nights in a row at the 40 Watt Club in March of this year.
This showcase also features:
Dave Waite (featured on Comedy Central’s ‘Live at Gotham” and Rooftop
Silver Nail Winner for best underground comic)
TJ Young (member of The Beards of Comedy, creator of Mundanish
Comedy, and a 2008 Aspen Rooftop Comedy Awards winner)
Chris Patton (creator of Meri, LaughFest 2010)
Natalie Glaser (former public defender, performed with notable acts as
Maria Bamford and Bobcat Goldthwait)
Matt Gilbert (local comedian and creator of “Drafts and Laughs" at
Gameday. Pub)
Luke Fields (creator of “Hacks” at Caledonia Lounge and host of this
year’s Flagpole Athens Music Awards)
Drew Dickerson (local comedian and UGA student)
rock, R&B, heavy beats and more.
(11 p.m., Rye Bar)
Kaitiin Jones and the County
Fair Local folk guitarist/
vocalist Kaitiin Jones' five-piece
electric band performs a set
of Americana-tinged country
originals. (1 a.m., Little Kings
Shuffle Club)
