Miller, Eric Esssix, and Kermit Quinn will fill the Johnny Mercer Theater with music and spoken word. T op Ladies of Distinction, an international pro fessional and humanities organization of 4,000 dedicated and concerned women, presents the sen sational Five Men on a Stool, Saturday August 9, 2008. The concert will be held in the Savannah Civic Center's Johnny Mercer Theatre. This popular R&B/contempo- rary ensemble with a blend of music and poetry will electrify your soul. Five Men on a Stool is a contemporary R-n-B/Jazz ensemble accompanied by a touch of the spoken word. The group consist of five tremendously tal ented individuals with an All-Star rhythm section. Their per formance serves not only as entertainment, they also have leave the audi ence inspired and enlight ened about the communi- See Five Men, page 10 Saussy to Lead Carver Employees Association Othia Saussy has been named President of the Carver State Bank Employees Association. Saussy, who joined the Carver staff in 2001, is one of the experi enced bankers who is part of the staff at the bank's new Branch on the corner of I Skidaway Road Othia Saussy and Eisenhower Drive. Saussy is a senior teller at the branch where she is joined by Financial Services Specialists Mattie Bing and Lee Perry, and Tellers Joyce Coleman and Timitra Preston. Vice President Claudia Clarke is the Branch Manager. Prior to joining the staff at Carver, Saussy was an assistant manager at a retail business in Savannah. The Carver State Bank Employees Association was organized in the late 1970s to give the bank's employees an entity through which they can enjoy group activities, partici pate in community organizations, celebrate their individual achievements, and support local charities. “I am extremely excited about the opportunity to serve as President of our employees association, and I hope to See Saussy, page 10 Christmas in July The Department of Labor Employer Committee and Santa Claus presented a large donation to Greenbriar Children's Center on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 8:30am. The exciting and highly anticipated event, "Christmas in July," brings lots of laughter and cheer to the children who are vic tims of abuse, neglect and home lessness. Greenbriar received over $20,000 in combined dona tions of in-kind items, financial contributions and voluntary man power. After the presentation, Santa packed his bag and headed over to visit the children where he will have toys and gifts for every one. The children who partici pated in this event were from Greenbriar’s W.W. Law Learning Santa brings gifts in July. Center. Law Foundation Board of Directors, archivists, voluteers and fundraising campaign chairman Hugh Golson are in the midst of exciting and dramatic changes as they prepare to launch their first fundraising campaign, "Savannah's Law: A Community Saves Its Treasures." The fundraising campaign kicked off on July 29, 2008 with a reception and a tour at the Foundation’s head quarters at 226 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. at 6p.m. to com memorate the sixth anniversary of the death of Westley Wallace Law.
