Back row: Matthew Quintana (SCC), Roger Moss (SCC Artistic Director), and Michael Viers (FCB President). On Tuesday, October 7, the Savannah Children's Choir kicked off their fundraising effort for their Spring 2009 concert tours with an event at First Chatham Bank. The Savannah Children's Choir has been invited to England to partici pate in the Somerset International Youth Festival in July, 2009, and the Savannah Children's Preparatory Choir is planning a regional tour to Chattanooga, TN in May, 2009. Magic Mark, Campaign Chair, and choir members were on hand to open an account. Thanks to a partner ship with First Chatham, the public can donate funds at any one of the seven First Chatham Bank locations. The SCC is a not-for-profit organ ization, and donations are tax deductible to the full extend of the law. Other fundraising efforts planned include a playbill- styled program book that will be distributed at each concert of the 2008/2009 choir season — as well as on tour in Chattanooga and England, a raffle, a Savannah Children's Choir Day at Bames & Noble Bookstore, and more. As Savannah's only community children's choir, the organization has a mission of uniting Savannah's chil dren through the power of song. Children must maintain a "B" or better average in their school work to continue with the choir, and free tutoring is provided by community members to children needing extra help. The choir currently has two performances planned for the fall season; a Gospel Branch at Telfair's Jepson Center on Sunday, November 23 and their annual Holiday Concert on Sunday, December 7 at 3:00 p.m. at the Lucas Theater.
