Some officers of Ruth
Chapter #3 O.E.S.,
International Free and
Accepted Modern Masons
and Order of the Eastern
Stars visited Hodge
Elementary School on
September 12, 2011 to
make a special donation of
school supplies.
The children were in
their general assembly
when the officers arrived.
The students were all very
appreciative to receive the
school supplies from the
chapter.
The members of Ruth
Chapter would like to give
accolades to Principal
Donna Myers Oliver,
Assistant Principal Elinor
Morris and the entire staff
at Hodge Elementary for
doing a great job in teach
ing the children.
We were very
impressed with how disci
plined the children were
during the assembly with
so many children in atten
dance, and they were very
attentive. The stu
dents are learning a lot
from the dedicated staff,
we observed their interac
tion with the staff and their
participation to show what
they have learned was awe
some. The staff in every
department seems to care
about the children.
Keep up the good
work Hodge Elementary
staff and students and
thank you for allowing us
to assist in your efforts.
Ruth Chapter #3 will con
tinue with the Lord’s help
to relegate donations and
activities for our youth in
the Savannah community.
“It takes a village to raise a
child,” and our chapter will
continue to support the
youth in our community.
SAT: Georgia Has 5th Highest
Participation Rate in the U.S.
The largest and most
diverse group of graduating
seniors in Georgia’s history
took the SAT this year.
The SAT participation
rate for the Georgia class of
2011 was 80%, a six percent
increase from last year, plac
ing Georgia fifth in the nation
in the percentage of high
school seniors taking the
SAT.
Of the state’s 2011 col
lege-bound seniors who took
the SAT, 46 percent were
minority students, up from
45 percent in 2010 and 39
percent in 2007.
Georgia's public, pri
vate and home school stu
dents scored 1,445 on the
SAT, a six point decrease
from 2010. The national
average was 1,500, also a six
point decrease from 2010.
Public school students scored
1,431 on the exam and the
national average score was
1,483.
“It’s good that we have
so many students aspiring to
go to college,” said State
School Superintendent Dr.
John Barge. “However, I
believe we have to do a better
job of educating our students
as to what exam is needed to
get into the appropriate post
secondary institution. We
have far more students taking
the SAT than the number of
students going to four-year
universities. Many of our
postsecondary institutions
don’t require the SAT for stu
dents to be accepted. When
we roll out our career path
ways next year, the appropri
ate postsecondary tests need
ed for enrollment will be
clearly outlined for stu
dents.”
