Massie-Sampson Named AD at Livingstone
rv ■
Lamonte Massie-Sampson
Savannah resident
Lamonte Massie-Sampson
has been named athletics
director at Livingstone Col
lege. Massie-Sampson will
replace Andre Springs who
has announced his retire
ment as athletic director of
Livingstone, effective Dec.
31.
It will be a home
coming to the Salisbury,
North Carolina based school
for Massie-Sampson who
was the Blue Bears athletic
director and head football
coach from 2007-10.
“I am extreme
ly excited to return back to
Livingstone Athletics,” stat
ed Massie-Sampson. “See
ing some of my past hires
that are still in the depart
ment and some peers gives
me a high comfort level for
the transition. In addition,
with Coach Springs staying
on ensures there is a seam
less transition.,” he went on
to add.
When asked about
his goals for the Division II
program which competes in
the Central Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference, he
said “My goal is to pick up
where Coach Springs left
off. We want to continue the
building process of the pro
gram. Once I am there we
will first work on our com
prehensive plan for our ath
letic enterprise. All centered
around providing the best
student-athlete experience
academically, athletically
and socially.”
Massie-Samp
son is confident that new
facilities will help recruit
more students to Living
stone. “With the building
of our new arena and oth
er projects, we plan to be a
strong consideration for stu
dents and student-athletes
throughout North Carolina
and at a minimum, the CIAA
footprint if not nationally.”
For the past two
years, Massie-Sampson has
served as an assistant foot
ball coach at Islands High
School. He was the Sharks
assistant head coach/run-
ning back coach during the
2017 season and served as
offensive coordinator this
past season.
Prior to that he
spent 2011-12 as an assis
tant football coach at Bene
dict College and worked as
an assistant athletic director
of team operations at Savan
nah State University from
2010-11.
From 2000-2007,
he served as the head foot
ball coach and offensive co
ordinator at Edward Waters
College in Jacksonville, Fla.
From 2005-2007
Massie-Sampson served
as the commissioner of the
South Eastern Athletic Con
ference. During that time
he helped implement their
strategic plan, provided
leadership with the budget,
marketing proposals, com
pliance, and daily admin
istrative operations for the
entire conference.
Massie-Sampson
is also a business owner. He
is CEO and president of Val
iant Global Solutions which
is based in Savannah. Val
iant is a provider of IT hard
ware/software, cloud and
telecommunications prod
ucts to small and mid-sized
businesses.
In 2006,
Massie-Sampson retired as
a captain from the US Army
Reserve after 22 years of

It’s On! Serenas Cleared
To Wear Catsuits On
The Court
Everywhere But At The French Open
by Maiysha Kai; The Glowup
The great catsuit
controversy is over—well,
kind of. Memorably, offi
cials at the French Open
banned catsuits directly af
ter Serena Williams’ 2018
appearance wearing one,
implicitly referring to the
Nike-designed black com
pression suit Williams said
made her feel like “a super
hero” (it was also worn as a
protective measure against
post-pregnancy blood clots).
According to the French
Tennis Federation’s new,
stricter dress codes for 2019,
more traditional attire is now
mandated on their red clay
courts.
But as Yahoo!
Sports reports (hey, that
rhymes!), the Women’s Ten
nis Association apparently
has Serena’s back—along
with any other female player
who wants to dress similar
ly. Releasing their player-re
lated rule changes for 2019
on Tuesday, the association
directly addressed the issue
of on-court attire.
“Leggings and
mid-thigh compression
shorts may now be worn
with or without a skirt,
shorts or dress,” the rule
notes.
Say that, WTA.
Unfortunately, this
doesn’t reverse the ruling of
the FTF, but we’d personal
ly love to see all the female
players wearing catsuits and
compression shorts through
out next season, in silent
protest against the rather
discriminatory ruling of
FTF president Bernard Giu-
dicelli.
Regardless, we’d
like to count this as another
win for the GOAT.
