With the theme... “We Can Achieve More Together Than Act Alone” and the Scripture Psalm 40:8, on Sunday, March 17,2024, the Glory of God was witnessed by a packed house, as we held a Celebration of Christian Growth for Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church (1720 Staley Ave.). ADeacon’s Ordination was conducted for Brother Edward Williams and Brother Jerome Battey, two men who have committed to and accepted the position of Deacon pledging.. .’’to act just ly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with God” (Mi- cah 6:8). Also, during the cel ebration of growth, Sister Alice M. Robinson was honored and installed as our Church Moth er. Sister Robinson, at the age of 93, is a life-long dedicated member who serves faithfully in numerous positions in the church. She imparts spiritual guidance and wisdom. Host Church for the celebration was 2nd Arnold Baptist Church and Master of Ceremonies was Minister Marion Brooks of 2nd Ar nold Baptist Church. The candidates processed in with Brother Edward Williams escorted by Sister Coy Wil liams, Brother Jerome Battey escorted by Sister Willie Mae Almond and Sister Alice M. Robinson escorted by Deacon James Green. A soul-stirring praise and worship by 2nd Ar nold Baptist Church’s Praise Team set the tone for a high ly spirited service, followed by a heartfelt welcome from Sister Diana Wagner of Zion Hill Baptist Church. A beau tiful scripture and prayer was rendered by Deacon Earl Wil liams and Deaconess Eva Wil liams of Tribe of Judah Baptist Church. Minister Lori Blige took us deep into our musical roots with an ole time spiritual. Bringing reverence to this mo mentous occasion was Pastor Richard Hall who eloquently delivered The Rhema Word of God. With the topic of “Show Me The Way” Pastor Hall brought a powerful message that affected all in attendance. The Program con cluded with the presentation of Bibles to the Deacons by Pastor Marc Williams of 1st Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and Hymnals by Deacon Cur ley Green of 2nd Arnold Bap tist Church. Deacon James Green, Chairman of the ZHBC Deacons Ministry, presented framed Deacons certificates. Prayer for the candidates and church mother was given by Pastor Tony E. Reddick of New Shiloh Baptist Church. Dr. Dawn M. Robinson recited and presented a framed poem writ ten by Pastor Kinlaw, Jr. and dedicated to Sister Robinson. Deaconess Linda R. Green read and presented the framed Church Mother’s Charge. Pas tor Clarence Kinlaw, Jr. of Zion Hill Baptist Church and Tribe of Judah Baptist Church gave an expressive charge to the can didates as they embark on their new Christian journey. Deacon James Green gave words of thanks to program participants. He also paid a special tribute to Rev. Jessie Blackshear, Rev. Frank Ellis, Rev. Richard Hall and Rev. Barbara Simmons for their spiritual guidance. We give very special thanks to Pastor Clarence Kinlaw, Jr. for the love and care he put forth in coordinating this God-filled celebration of growth for Zion Hill Baptist Church. Deep Center to Host 2024 Youth Summit and SLAM Competition Deep Center will host the organization’s 2024 Youth Summit and SLAM competi tion on Saturday, April 27th, 2024 at the Frank Callen Boys and Girls Club, 510 E. Charl ton St. in Savannah. The Youth Summit is open to all Chatham County youth ages 13-18 to participate. The summit is completely free, but registration is required. The Youth Summit will also include a SLAM competition, a panel and Q&A with Savannah youth activists, interactive workshops, a spe cial “petty poetry” session with poet Ashlee Haze, and a free clothing swap and book give away.
