Local Family Partners With Daycare Center To Honor Their Daughter’s Memory The new outdoor space at Chunk’s Learning Center will be dedicated to the memory of Josephine Boswell A new outdoor play space at Chunk’s Learning Center will open on Saturday, April 20, at 11:00 a.m with a public unveiling ceremony. The new play space will be dedicated to the memory of Jo sephine Boswell, daughter of Savannah residents Kassandra and Lee Boswell. Josephine attend ed Chunk’s Learning Center from early infancy until she passed away on July 13, 2023. Now, the learning center has graciously created a dedicated outdoor space that will honor Josephine’s memory. Not only did Josephine love to attend Chunk’s Learning Center and look forward to going there each day, but playing outside was one of her favorite activ ities, especially if there was a swing set or a slide nearby. Josephine loved her teachers, classmates, everyone at Chunk’s,’’ said Lee Boswell, Josephine’s father. “When we walked into school every morning, she would wave at each classroom on her way to her own. It was like she was the mayor of the place.’’ Tye Whitely, owner of Chunk’s Learning Center, shared that the love Josephine had for the center was recip rocated in every way, and that Tye and her team were grateful for the opportunity to honor Jo sephine’s memory. “There was never a dull moment with Josephine and her friends. She and her crew were small but mighty!’’ said Tye. “I think dedicating this play space to Josephine will keep her spirit of adven ture and fun on the campus of Chunk’s Learning Center. She will be our Forever Chunk- ster.’’ The unveiling of the new playground space will also mark the official launch of the newly-founded Jose phine Boswell Foundation, or JBF, which was established by Josephine’s parents and loved ones following her passing. In spite of months of effort by her family, Josephine’s cause of death remains unknown, and her family has found support and community through those similarly affected by sudden unexplained death in childhood (SUDC). Now seeking to ex tend that support to others who have been impacted by SUDC, JBF has established a threefold vision: To raise awareness to support SUDC research; to provide financial assistance for quality child care to families in need; and to create a supportive environment for families that have experienced similar loss. “While this has been our real-life nightmare, my goal for this foundation is to shine a light on this rarely dis cussed topic, while also help ing other families,’’ said Kas sandra Boswell, who serves as the Board President for the foundation. “Josephine was such an amazing little girl and while we can’t imagine what our future looks like without her, we hope she’d be proud of this legacy we are creating for her.’’ Participants of the unveiling will gather at 6610 Abercorn Street Savannah, GA 31405 at 11:00 a.m. for brief remarks about the foundation and its goals followed by light snacks. Any donations or pro ceeds raised at the event will be used to fund the organization’s vision. JBF and Chunk’s Learning Center invite all in the community to participate in honoring the memory of Josephine Boswell and the mission she has inspired them to achieve: Honoring one little girl by being the change she would have been in the world.
