Municipal Court
Judge Katie Brewington is
running for Magistrate Court
Judge of Chatham County.
Currently serving as a defense
attorney and pro tern judge in
municipal courts, she aims to
bring her extensive legal expe
rience to the Magistrate Court.
Known as “The Peo
ple’s Court’’, the Magistrate
Court assists individuals in civ
il and criminal actions, without
the need for an attorney, mak
ing the Magistrate Court af
fordable for everyone in Cha
tham County.
Originally from
South Dakota, Judge Brew
ington has been a resident of
Savannah since 2012. After
passing the bar exam at Florida
Coastal School of Law, Judge
Brewington relocated to the
port city, where she established
the Brewington Law Firm. She
has since represented clients
across a spectrum of cases
from simple traffic tickets to
complex Federal jury trials and
everything in between.
Six years ago, Judge
Brewington secured a contract
with the City of Savannah to
represent low-income clients
in magistrate court, and for the
past 16 months, she has served
as a pro tern judge in municipal
courts.
Motivated by her de
sire to serve, Judge Brewing-
ton views the position of mag
istrate court judge as the next
logical step in her career. She
aims to contribute positively to
the judicial system by uphold
ing the law and ensuring a fair
process for all.
She acknowledges
the influence of Judge Mi
chael Barker, the current posi
tion-holder, and aspires to em
ulate his dedication to the law
and the community. She said
her long-term goal is to contin
uously become a better judge
to teach other judges and help
them succeed in their profes
sions.
“If I get into this posi
tion, I’m not planning on using
it as a stepping stone for anoth
er higher position,’’ Brewing-
ton said. “I want to become the
best magistrate court judge I
can be.’’
Judge Brewington
shares intimately that as a
first-generation college and
law student, she has always
been self-motivated to do this
work for the people.
“My husband and I
worked very hard to get where
we are, and I think having that
experience will help me on the
bench and keep it equal for
people,” Brewington said.
Vote for Judge Katie
Brewington on May 21, 2024,
for a compassionate and dedi
cated magistrate court judge.
