12 The Savannah Tribune • Wednesday, May 29, 2024 When asked about his golf game, Adams said that he has never played golf, however it is something he has always been interested in. “I can play a little mini golf but it takes me a couple swings to get the ball in the hole. So I know my real golf game would need a lot of work.” A Savannah native who played at Islands High School, Adams led Savannah State in passing and rushing a year ago while accounting for 14 touchdowns. The 6-foot-4 rising senior hopes to increase the Tigers win total as well as win the conference title and make the playoffs. Kool Vibes Pizza & Wings along with JB Mogul were proud to host the celebration and offer them words of encouragement. Well done to the Garden City U14 basketball team, the Coaches and the Parents. Close to two doz en members of the Savannah State football team got a few tips from some professional athletes recently. Back in April, during the Club Car Championship at The Landings Golf & Athletic Club, about 20 members of the Tigers football team were pres ent as part of their community service outreach. Then it started to rain and everyone made their way inside the clubhouse. While inside, mem bers of the team got the chance to interact with professional football players Joshua Dobbs, Evan Engram and Jonathan Jones. All three are Georgia natives. Dobbs, a quarterback with the San Francisco 49ers, is from Alpharetta, Engram is a tight end with the Jacksonville Jaguars and is from Powder Spring and Jones is a corner- back with the New England Patriots who hails from Car rollton. The trio also stayed in the south to attend college with Dobbs playing at Tennes see, Engram at Ole Miss and Jones at Auburn. For SSU quarterback Jadon Adams, this wasn’t his first time meeting a profession al athlete. “This was not my first time meeting a profession al athlete. I have met Terrance Mathis, Cam Newton and Con nor Heyward, who plays for the Pittsburgh Steelers.” Mathis and Newton both have ties to SSU. Mathis was the Savannah State offen sive coordinator for two years. Newton’s mother is from Sa vannah and a SSU alumnae and his father was a All-Amer ican linebacker for the Tigers. While there, the team was granted the opportunity to ask them all questions. The Modern style meets modern comforts. When technology works together, every drive is enjoyed. The 2023 BMW lineup boasts an advanced suite of standard safety features and driving technology to deliver the power you need for your next adventure, Carter And Mosley Compete At Track Meet Evan Engram team was able to soak up all of the information that the trio had to offer. Even though the pro fessional athletes played at Power 5 schools and Savannah State is a Division II program, they also share similar goals of playing at the highest level. “What led them to talking to the team was the similarities they share with us and the fact that they are where we all want to be, playing foot ball at the highest level in the NFL. So it was great to learn Jonathan Jones from them and see how they approach the game,” said Ad ams. The professional athletes told the college stu dent-athletes that they need to stay committed if they expect to achieve their goals. “They offered advice such as staying consistent and always working hard. Despite what setbacks or obstacles come your way if you have a goal make sure to do all that you can to make that goal come to life,” states Adams.
