Guano and whiskey ore alike in some respects. Neither if essential to the puL and both are good things’ if properly used, hut being frequently misapplied, are injurious to tlie country, Good or bad. guano and whiskey will continue to be old and used. Some people are so worthless that it is difficult to understand why they are al lowe. to live, unless it be true that it takes all sorts of people to make a world Such people are about as useful as some laud in Georgia, which is said to serve no nut-pose except holding the earth together. President Harrison’s cabinet should be composed altogether of Northern men. The republican party, in that case, would ■be responsible in the highest degree for t.ho management of government. Certain it is that the South would receive good treatment at their hands, or the hopes of the republicans would he forever blighted. Since our editorial in oar last issue about mobs and lynching?, we have seen that statistics show that, during 1888 there were more lyr.chings than lega’i executions in the United States. , This does uot sur¬ prise ns. It shows that there should bo more legal executions in which the lynch¬ ers should act the principal parts. Editors know how farming and nearly every business should be conducted, how public enterprises should he managed, how all sorts of government should toe ad¬ ministered. what laws are needed, and many other things too tedious to eunmer ate. Iu short, editors are right smart men. If all editors wore rich and were al¬ lowed to boss the whole county just, like they want to, oh wouldn’t this land of the free soon grow fat and be sleek with pros¬ perity ! PUBLIC SCHOOL EXAMINATIONS. As an examination of applicants for H cons to teach public sctiools has just been held, and as the law that governs this mat. ta,,,,,! thinking the public may IiRe to become nore familiar wifh this custom. The county Mhooi wM« » supplied «,!, ,1,2 questions for examinations, which are gotten printed. The C. S. I. furnishes each ap q> icabt with a copy of the questions’ and -Xhs latter must, unaided write the answers after the examination papers are handed in tho 0- S. C. grades them thus: These who •have answered correctly as many as 00 per ;cmt, of the questions receive first grade: those who correctly answer not Jess than 75 or more than 00 per cent, get second grade: and tho third grade ohes are those who have the correct repleosdo from GO to .5 per cent, of tho questtons. The board .of education then grants license acceding to tho county school commissiuers grading giving to the first grade applicants license for three years, to the second grade Jiicense for two years, and license for one will i. entitle eneYo teaoh' cotln cense many iv in the state--without having te undergo other examination. This is the way the examinftious arc conducted. If a person is so fortutoete as to get the grade of license he wants, he usually thinks the plan a good one and the questions-uot very difficult- if he is not so fortunate, lie-may think differently.
