Rev. J. M. Kelley will preach at Lib
erty Church on the fifth Sunday, May
31st.
Miss Ola McCcok ha s returned from
a visit to Fort Valley.
‘Dublin Chautaukua begin May 31st
and closes June 6th. The program
is said to be the best of any preceding
year. Many of our citizens will take
in the attractions.
Mr. James McCook, mother and sis
ter, Miss Lula, are enjoying a ten
days’ outing at Tybee.
Miss Fleta Nesbitt has returned
from Brenau Female College, Gaines
ville, Ga., where she recently received
her diploma.
Miss Ellen Brundage is visiting in
Jones county.
The state geologist has been - in Ir
winton the past week investigating
bauxite deposits.
Mrs.’Willie Ridley is visiting her sis
ter, Mrs. P. F. Duggan.
Fish fries are the order of the
day.
Mrs. Gracie Lingo, who has been
quite sick at the home of E. W. Lin
go, is reported better.
Mr. J. L. Causey is sick of slow
fever.
Mr. J. J. McConnell is suffering from
an attack of rheumatism.

Mr. John Vinson of Gordon was in
Irwinton Monday.
Quite a number of Irwinton people
will attend services at Liberty Sun

Mrs. G. T. Everett visited Toomsboro
on Tuesday.
Mrs. E. C. Lindsey made a flying
trip to Savannah the last cf the week,
returning Sunday.
Mr. W. A. Jones of Gordon spent
Tuesday in Irwinton.

Mrs. J. A. Camp of Indian Springs
has been spending the past week wi;h
her sister, Mrs. G. E. Daniel.
Miss Addie Cason has returned from
a week’s stay at Indian Springs.
Professor S. A. Boone of this place
has accepted a position as principal of
a school at Hawkinsville.
W. M. Boles of Dublin, Ga., will
open a store here at an early date.
We welcome Mr. Boles to our town.
From all accounts Little Joe will
come up short here on the 4th.
The money is in hand and work
will soon begin on a new artesian well
in Toomsbcro.
Do the merchants and property own
ers of Toomsboro know trat there
are people within ten miles of this
place who are not yet so far away
that it takes two days for them~ to
get to and from a market? There’s

Professor Ryle has closed his school
in Jones county, and returned to his
home in Gordon.
Miss Hazelie Powell has returned
from school in Forstyh.
Quantities of peaches are being
shipped from this place daily and we
understand that our town has the hon
or of shipping the first Georgia peach
es this season.
Miss Emme McArthur has returned
from a visit to her sister. Mrs. Smith,
in Milledgeville.
Mrs. J. M. Hooker has returned
home.
Miss Mattie Gay Tomlinson is visit
ing in Macon.
Mrs. J. W. Hooks made a business
trip to Atlanta this week.
Mrs. Thelma Miller of Macon visited
her sister, Mrs. C. A. Hodges, this
week.
Miss Mamie Ryle and little Miss
Martha Barclay of Macon are guests
of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Ryle.
Miss Sallie Smith is visiting Miss
Maizy Gardner this week.
East Macon and Gordon played a
real interesting game cf ball here on
Saturday, which resulted in 11 to 8
8 in favor of Gordon. The leading ■
feature of the game was the batting j
of the Gordon team, batting Macon’s;
pitcher, Kingman, out of the box in ]
the 'fourth inning.
Miss Maizy Gardner visited friends 1
in Gordon Saturday and Sunday.
Mr. J. Youngblood of Ivey was here
T uesday.
Mrs. Dr. R. M. Butts had several
young ladies to dine with her Sunday.
. Mr. Sid W. Lee is to be the profes
sor of the Old Maids Convention.
The'ladies sold ice cream at the ball
ground Saturday afternoon and at the
academy Saturday night for the bene
fit cf the new church.
Messrs. Kingman and Smiley enter
tained the crowd at the Academy Sat
urday night by singing several selec
tions. which were highly appreciated.
The Old Maids’ Convention will be
given at the Academy here on the
nigght of June sth, and no doubt will
be enjoyed by every one in attend
ance.
The corner stone of the new Gordon
Methodfist Church was laid May 20th.
The services were conducted by Pre
siding Elder Brother O. F. C ok. as
sisted by Brother W. S. Johnson, which
were very impressive. This building
is to be modern through, and. when
completed, will be one of the best
houses of worship in this county.
