ademy here Friday and Saturday. I

Bey J M Kelley filled his regular ap
pointment at Toomsqoro Friday night.
He reports something overs4oo in sight
for the erection of a Baptist Church at
that place.
Mr Hugh Parker, our “early” far
mer, brought a fine load of “Pride of
Georgia” watermelons to thecily Wed
nesday and sold them at handsome pr.-
ces. They were large and well develop
ed melons.
MrPawndexter of Atlanta, one of
the newly elected deputy sheriffs of
Fulton county, spent Saturday in the
city guest of Sheriff J L Byington.
Col Hollis Lindsey made a pleasure
trip to the far “North” last week—get
ting as far as Macon and Gordon. He
states that the weather is a great deal
more pleasant way up there than here.

Convemion Nominates Joe Brown
Tom Bison Not Morsel
Convention Met at 10:10 O’clock And Adjourned at
1:22, Having Carried Out Program Without Hitch.
Joseph M Biown, of Cobb county,
was nominated Tuesday at noon June
23, unanimously, as the Democratic
candidate for governor by the state
convention.
He was placed in nomination by
Judge HD D Twiggs, of Chatham,
. the nomination was seconded by
Several prominent Georgians.
Albert H Cox, of Fulton; William
S West, of Lowndes; Peter W Mel
drim, of Chatham, Thomas W. Loy
less, of Richmond, were unanimously
elected as delegates from the state at
large to the Denver Covention.
Tweuty-two delegates, two from
each congressional district, were
elected to the Denver convention.
Eb T Williams, of Fulton, and
Frank H Saffold, of Emanue', were
elected as presidential electors from
the state at large.
The delegates to the Denver con
vention will go uninstructed.

DEATH CAME WEDNESDAY MORNING AT H:2O AT HIS PRINCTON, NEW i
JERSEY HOME.
A. gloom was cast over „ the entire
nation Wednesday when it became
known that Ex-President Grover
Cleveland was dead.
The result of his death was from
an attack of acute he=rt failure and
| death was very sudden and unexpect
ed.
While his death was unexpected
j he had been ill for a number of weeks
and his condition was weakened.
Mr. Cleveland was the Democratic
party’s first and only president since
the civil war and was the only sur
viving ex-president.
The announcement of his death
has cast a pall over the south that
will not soon be overcome.
President Roosevelt has issued a
proclariiation ordering all the flags on
the White House and the several
departmental buildings be displayed
at half staff for a period of thirty
days, and that suitable military and
naval honors under orders of secre
j taries of war and navy be rendered on
i the day of the funeral.
The funeral will be held at West
land’s, Mrs. Cleveland’s Princton
home, on Friday and will be private,

of Fulton was appointed to notify Mr
Brown of his nomination.
Approximately 2,500 hundred peo
l pie—delegates, alternates and sight
seers—attended the convention.
A machine-like accuracy and dis
patch and smoothness of motion char
acterized the state Democratic con
vention Tuesday when the friends of
Hon Joseph M Brown gathered in
the Grand to officially declare him
the parly’s nominee for governor of
Georgia.
