Rev. H. Stevens and family leave
this wek for their new home in
Americus. The people of Irwinton
will regret to lose them. Brother .
Stevens has served this church three ,
years, and during that time the con
tributions to the various church in
terests have advanced steadily. He ,
is an earnest and consecrated work
er and we congratulate Americus in
securing his services. Rev. G. W. ,

K We publish this week a clipping
”from the Wayne County News. We
trust that the people of Irwinton and
Wilkerson counties will do all they
can to bring the road through Irwin
ton. The proposed route would cross
the Central a few miles above Mc-
Intyre, pass through Irwinton, then
down ’ Big Sandy, going below Red
Level and above Stevensville on to
Dublin. This would open up a fine
section of country, and be of incalcu
lable interest to those along the
route.
Mr. Will Carswell of Tennessee is
visiting Irwinton.
Mr. Lawson Prichard of Tennille
was in Irwinton Monday.
Messrs. Chambers, Bard and Dun
woody of Macon, accompanied Mr.
James McCook on a bird hunt here
this week.
Miss Mamie Beall Brundage will
spend the Christmas holidays with
her sister, Mrs. Coley at .Carey.
Mrs.-G. A. Hughs has returned from
Macon, where she was called on ac
j count of the illness of her daughter,
Mrs. Beall.
Our sister city, Mclntyre is erecting
several new buildings.

IRWINTON, WILKINSON COUNTY, GA., FRIDAY, DECEMBER 25,1908.
STATE ROAD EXTENSION.
Wayne County News.
The commission to extend the state
road to the sea is complete and will
soon be called to Atlanta to meet and
discussp lans of extending it. If the
state road is to be extended it must
come through Jesup; we will not be
satisfied unless it does. In looking
over the map of the state we find a
very desirable route from a business
viewpoint and for direction, as fol
lows: From Atlanta to Decatur, to
Monticello, to Irwinton, to Dublin, to
Mt. Vernon, to Jesup, to Brunswick
or Darien. This would give a trunk
line through one of the finest sections
of Georgi. This section is rich in
farming and lumber interests and
would" welcome a trunk line railroad
to develop its resources.
The counties through which the
road passes could furnish the convicts
and grade the right of way, after the
survey is made. Thus the road could
be constructed in a most economical
manner. We are satisfied Wayne
county will do her part toward the
building of it, if it is decided to ex
tend the road and bring it through its
confines.

A happy marriage occurred at the
beautiful home of Mr. James Council,
the bride’s father, on the 6th instant,
when Mr. Robert Penington led to the
altar Miss Willie Counsil. Certainly
" this was a beautiful young couple.

The time is coming when consump

prophesies the Brooklyn Eagle. Op

hence, but the disease cannot be
stamped out so soon unless the edu

now beginning be waged with vigor, ,
