IRWINTON, GA, APR. 16, 1909,
NEW SITSTEI\[ SATISFACTORY.
It has been said that the former es
sees of the state convicts are very much
gorn up and inconvenienced by the
taking away from them the state’s new
road workmen, but the ma jority of the
people seem to be very well satisfied,
hiowever. /
The Bulletin has always advocated
the working of convicts en the public
roads of the different counties. We
l)elieve they are most needed there, and
where they are most neceded is whare
they belong.
It has already cost this county a con
siderable amount of money to secure
equipment and put our gang in opera
tion, and still 1t will require probably
nore to operate the present system
than the old system for a while. and
the tax rate may be a few mills higher, |
- but just think, would not any right
thinking, far seeing citizen be wimngl
_to pay & little more taxes and have
better roads? There is not a decent
- yoad in Wilkinson county. and shall
_our county remain 1n this condition ?
- Let uz all lny low, remain guiet and |
_give our new system a fair and impar
g.’%fiul,mq, and then if it is not a success
~Ave may organize 3 kickers club,
% Donot condemn anything or any
oy until a convinging trial has been
_given. We were obliged to change
_from the old system or let the roads
- fnish going to the bow-wows.
- Let-is have better roads, and we be
heve the convict system is the only so-
Jution of this problem. The advance-
A geqc in the value of the property with
| goo roads wonld amount to u great
leal niore than the sinall advancement
30 the tax rate.
~N‘ all these things into consider
ation; watch, wait, and see what the
7esult will be. N 2
