I HEARSE DRIVER’S SIGNAL-
] He Gives the High Sign, to Signify a
Block Ahead.
It is a common thing for the driv
; er held up by a block ahead to throw
i up his whip hand as a sign to drivers
I following him. All sorts of drivers
I do this; and yet it seemed strange to
see the sign given by the driver of
a hearse.
Funerals are not commonly seen in
the crowded business streets of the
city where the sign may be neces
sary; they are met oftenest in resi
dence streets, where traffic is not
likely to be obstructed; and so one
might, in the course of time, see
many funeral precessions pass an 1
never once see the hearse driver give
the high sign.
But the hearse is not always seen
at the head of a funeral procession;
it must of course go to and from the
place at which it is to heed the line
of carriages, and then it moves alone,
as was the case with this hearse,
seen going up Broadway, like any
other separate vehicle in the midst of
a crush of trucks, wagons, carriages
and automobiles; and here, when
there was a block ahead, the man on
: the box of the hearse threw up his
whip hand, just like any other driver.
This world is getting to be a ter
ribly busy place. Holidays are out
of fashion. laments the Philadelphia
Record. One State in Mexico, which
has 160 of them a year, is trying to
reduce the number of holidays from
91 to 63. including Sundays, which is
more than France, England and Ger
many have and about what there are
in this country. But the Russian will
miss the 28 holidays it is proposed
to wrest from him. The reformers
should be very careful; they must
remember that, al! work and no play
makes Jack a dull boy.
Investigations ihave shown that the
so-called 'Black-Hand" societies are
independent bands of criminals, made
bold by our inadequate laws of ex
portation, and taking advantage of the
civic cowardice of their compatriots.
To check these growing crimes of
arson, murder and blackmail that are
possible because of our vast criminal
immigration, new restraints must bo
applied, pleads the Hartford Courant.
No emigrant should be allowed to
land without a passport upon which
his photograph is printed—not past
ed. This passport should be subject
to inspection until the emigrant has
become a naturalized citizen.

Ten Doctors
Said He Would Die
“In 1903 we wrote you regard
ing my husband, who was suf
fering from heart trouble. He
was superanuated by the North
Georgian Conference. Ten doc
tors at different times said he
would die. You advised Dr.
Miles’ Heart Remedy and Re
storative Nervine; we did as
advised, and improvement was
apparent from the very first. He
recovered and the Conference in
1904 gave him a charge. He
never felt better, although he
has very heavy work and does
a great deal of camp meeting
work. I am so glad we took
your advice and gave him the
medicine, and feel that I ought
to let you know of the wonder
ful good results from its use.”

This proves what Dr. Miles’
Heart Remedy will do. Get a
bottle from your druggist and
take it according to directions.
It does not matter whether your
heart is merely weak, or you
have organic trouble, if it does
not benefit you take the empty
bottle to your druggist and get
your money back.
