MANY NEW RAILROADS
Great Activity in Railway (Con
struction Throughout Georgia.
NEW ROAD "TO FLORIDA
Albany to Secure Two New Railroads—Work
Will be Resumed on the S., A. and N.
Road—Dalton After Railroad.
Albany, Ga.—There are very bright
prospects for Albany’s getting two
new railroads before the year is gone.
There appears not to be the slightest
doubt, that the Georgia Southwestern
and Gulf will be built from this city
to St. Andrews Bay, Fla.
The other road which now seems
to have such good proscpects is the
Albany, Ashburn and Atlantic. Much
of the route which the proposed line
would cover has already been grad
ed, much of it for use for by lumber
roads, and the construction work can,
therefore, be done at comparatively
small expense.
The part of the road already built,
and now nearly to Ashburn from the
east, is known as the Fitzgerald, Ocil
la and Broxton.
Fitzgerald, Ga—Temporary organi
zation of the Jacksonville and Atlan
ta Short Line Railway Company was
perfected here.
Committees from various points be
tween Jacksonville, Fla., and Fort Val
ley, Ga., met here for the purpose of
discussing the matter of constructing
a high-speed trunk line steam rail
way through one of the best, unde
veloped territories in South Georgia
and Florida and the yellow pine belt.
The owners of the short lines of rail
road along the route proposed were
present, manifesting their interest in
the organization of the company
which is supposed to absorb the sev
eral interests in building the short
est possible line between Atlanta and
Jacksonville, about 40 miles shorter
than either of the present routes.
It is assured that the rights of
way and 25 per cent of the capital
stock will be obtained and raised,
which practically guarantees that the
line will be built.
Fitzgerald, Ga—The Fitzgerald and
Ocilla Electric Railway broke dirt,
and will rush the road to completion
with a large force of men. A boat
load of rails arrived in Savannah for
the road and another load is on the
way. A large number of ties were
bought in the city for immediate de
livery. It looks now as though the
long delayed road would be built in a
short' time.
Gainesville, Ga Renewed interest
in Gainesville is manifested in the
proposed Savannah, Augusta and
Northern Railway by a recent visit
of parties to this section who are
interested in the project.
It now looks like the people be
hind the proposed road mean to get
busy all along the line and push the
extension from Garfield on to Gaines
ville and through to Chattanooga.
Eighty miles of this road have been
3numtnn SuUrttn.
built already, over which trains are
now operated. Work was suspended
on the road by reason of the panic
of 1907, but it now looks as if it is
to be resumed and the road built.
Dalton, Ga. — Dalton citizens are
talking of organizing to make a very
strong pull to get the Rome and
Northern Railroad, which is survey
ed, to come through the county on
the western side from Gore to Tun
nel Hill. The survey is several miles
off the line from Dalton and the citi
zens here think it would be folly to
pass as important a shipping point
as Dalton, where the two trunk lines,
the Southern and Western and Atlan
tic meet, and it is likely that the
matter will be taken up with the of
ficials before the line is extended.

100,000 NOTREGISTERED.
Registration Will Probably Be the
Lightest in Years.
Atlanta, Ga.—Registration in 1908
and 1909 in 90 Georgia counties —
177,885.
Registration in same counties to
date for 1910—110,875.
Which means that there are in
these 90 counties approximately 67,-
000 voters who participated in the
last state primary who will be dis
franchised this year unless they reg
ister before the sth of April
Assuming that the ratio of regis
tration in the other 56 counties ot
the state is the same as in the 90
counties heard from, the total short
age in this year’s regitration, as com
pared with the two preceding years,
is 108,025.
There were in the neighborhood of ,
260,000 voters registered for the gu
bernatorial election in 1908, while the ,
indications are now that the figures
so far for the 1910 elections come '
to only about 150,000. ;
In view of the figures received from i
the counties so far heard from, it is
exceedingly doubtful if the total reg
istration when the books close on (
April 5 will be much over the 200,-
000 mark —unless between now and
that date unprecedented activity in <
registering takes place. :
Reports from some of the county <
tax receivers indicate that strenuous ;

necessity of registering at once, but
from the majority of the counties the
reports indicate no such activity. In
a few of the counties the tax collec
tors have appointed men in each mi
litia district, who are making a house
to house canvass to get the voters
to register, and in these counties the
vote will probably be as large, if not
larger, than ever before.

Peach Growers Alarmed.
Americus, Ga. — Americus peach
growers are alarmed at the prospect
for a fruit crop since the recent warm
weather set in, starting the trees to
bloom prematurely.
Tens of thousands of tres in the
Americus territory are in full bloom,
and within a week every orchard will
resemble a blooming garden. Up to
a. week ago the trees had not. ad
vanced far, but the few late hot days
have caused thousands of peach trees
here to bloom abundantly.
If you desire a clear complexion

stipation and liver trouble as it will

cleanse your system, which is what
everyone needs in order to feel well.

Farm Demonstrators Appointed.
Athens, Ga—With the purpose oi
furthering the ends of co-operative
agricultural education for the farm
ers of Georgia, the State College of
Agriculture has appointed farm dem
onstrators or representatives of the
college, in forty counties of the state,
distributed like the senatorial dis
tricts. These men, who have been
appointed, are all farmers of their
section of Georgia, and have been se
lected to show the farmers of then
counties, by actual illustration, how
they may increase their yields and
improve their crops.
A Religious Author’s Statement,
Rev. Joseph H. Fesperman, Salis
bure, N. C., who is the author of sev
eral books, writes: “For several years
I was afflicted with kidney trouble
and last winter I was suddenly strick
en with a severe pain in my kidneys
and was confined to bed eight days
unable to get up without assistance.
My urine contained a thick white sed
iment and I passed same frequently
day and night. I commenced taking
Foley's Kidney Remedy, and the pain
gradually abated and finally ceased,
and my urine became normal. I
cheerfully, recommend Foley’s Kidney
Remedy.’’ Sold by all druggists of

CHILD STUDY AS A SCIENCE.
The greatest discovery of recent ■
years is the discovery of the child,
says a -writer in Hampton's Magazine.
Somehow or other there have always
been children in the world, but also,
somehow or other, we have only now
fund out that children are human be
ings. The result has been instant ac
tion; we have children's hospitals,
children’s laws, children’s aid socie
ties and reformatories, children's civ
ic playgrounds, -children’s courts, and
now Clark University, in Worcester.
Mass., has decided to crystallize the
entire child-welfare movement by es
tablishing a new department —an in
stitute for studying child-life in all
its phases.
Dr. G. Stanley Hall, President ot
Clark University, is the man who has
made this possible. It is the culmina
tion of an idea that has been growing
in Dr. Hall's mind for the greater
part of his sixty-four years of life.
With a kindly face much like that of
the typical old-time family physician.
Dr. Hall looks just the sort of man
one might expect to inaugurate such )
a movement. He was 'born on a |
farm near Ashfield, Mass.; was grad- I
uated from Williams College and lat
er from Union Theological Seminary;
then he studied in graduate colleges
abroad. He has filled the chairs of
philosophy or psychology in several .
institutions, including Harvard and, .
Johns Hopkins Universities. When
Clark University was founded in 18S7
he was put at its head and has been
its President ever since.
Work in the new child-life institute
will begin this fall. It will form a
basis for all philanthropic and edu
cational movements in behalf of chil
dren. The effort will be to collect
all data, now so scattered as to be
inefficient, under one roof so that it ,
may be studied and worked with most .
effectively. There will be a child hy
giene department, with apparatus
used in schools and nurseries, com ;
prising the study of contagious and i
infectious diseases, mortality statis- ( 1
tics, the influence of various condi- I •
tions of life. diet, dress, games and ) •
work. Heredity, -the laws governing ;
birth-rate, social and industrial eon- . :
ditions will be studied. Then there ;
will be a department of child anthrop- -
ology, child lore, myth, custom, belief,
gangs, etc. Also departments for 1
studying subnormal children, juvenile ,
vice and crime, and moral and relig
ious education.
Five Years
of Heart Trouble Cured by
Dr. Miles’ Heart Remedy
“Before I began taking Dr.
Miles’ Heart Remedy I had been
suffering from heart trouble for
over five years. I had pains in
my left side, and under my
shoulder blade, could not sleep
on the left side, and was so short
of breath the least .exertion
would bring on the.most distress
ing palpitation. I had scarcely
taken a half bottle of the Heart
Remedy before I could see a
marked change in my condition.
When I had taken six bottles I
was cured.”
MRS. C. C. GORKEY,
Northfield, Va.
If there is fluttering or palpi
tation it is an indication of a
weakness of the nerves and mus
cles of the heart. It is not neces
sarily diseased —just weak from
over-work. The heart may be
weak^ust’the same as the eyes,
stomach or other organs. You
can make a weak heart strong
by taking-Dr. Miles’ Heart Rem
edy. Get a bottle from your

fit he wilk return your money.
