June! Call in your money and |
start to buying wedding prese its-1
People often wonder why l so many
people marry in June when the ren
aon is so simple-^they just don’t
want to wait until July.
Let him be thankful who can take
his honk and lino and go fishing any
time he gets ready. Life is too short;
to have to work, work, work all the
time. However, this exhortation
doesn’t come fr m a heart bowed
■down.
Just to show you that our "blood
p limping station is properly located:
We would give a brand new twenty-1
dollar gold piece to know that Tom
Hardwick would lick the stuffin'
out’n Tom Watson and Eve and
Evans over in the Tenth.—Twig s

On May 1, 1906, the board of
i countv commissioners then in office
paid W- S. Bennett for one iron safe
) $171.00, warrant No. 709. This safe
was bought for countv treasurer’s
1 office. Some time this year the
present board disposed of this prop
-11 erty in some manner, leaving no
record of the disposal on their
) j books. The treasurer’s office shows
no receint of essh to cover sale.
> L. C. Carr presented bill for $29.75.
Commissioners paid him $29.95. See
> voucher No. 1438.
> In April, 1909, Mr. R. F. Speers
presented a bill to the commission-
> ers fdr $54.41. We find mistake in
addition: bill should be $52.36. The
> board paid this bill for $54.41; min
ute No. 1072. 'Clerk issued warrant
> for $84.41, which was presented to
' the treasurer and paid.
In June. 1909, bill was presen*^
। j to commissioners for 75 cents, min
• ute No. 1245; warrant issued by the
clerk which shows in writing 7«
। cents in figures, «2.00 on Stubb, 75
cents made to Henry Reeves and
1 collected bv J. W. Vaugn, $2.00.
On August 3, 1909. J. L. Byington
Tiresented bill to commissioners for
$23.66, minute No. 1326; warrant
shows in writing $23.66. in figures.
$33.66, which amount the treasurer
I paid. .
' We find warrant No. 1551 favor of
Central of Georgia Railway Comnany
for $9.23; stubb shows $8.30: origin- ।
i al order correctly added, $8.58.
i We find that on May 15, 1909. the
i commissioners sismed a note favor
lof B. F. Bloodworth for $525.00. We
I find no record on treasurer’s books
I where this money was paid into ♦ v
i treasury. Treasurer states that he
has never handled it. We find no
record in county commissioners' of
fice where this money.was used for
any special purpose. The commis
sioners ■ passed an order, No. 1G95,
paying back this money.
We find commissioners paid A. I.
Smith $10.35 when same should
have been $9.35. See minutes No.
1525.
We find the commissioners paid
B. F. Bloodworth $73.47; should
have been $63.47. v Minute No. 1331.
We note bill of 1 Geo. D. Barnard
& Co. for $201.10. We find warrant
issued for $210.10. See voucher No.
1788.
The above differences listed are
due the county and should be col
lected by the dounty commissioners
and paid treasurer.
We note where county commis
sioners paid court house officers
SBB.OO. We cannot find what this
is paid for.
We find the minutes of this office
not indexed and properly dated. We
find no record kept of the 'commuta
tion taxpayers. We find books foi
part of the districts, but records
worthless, as don't show dates.
Suggestions, if Followed, Will Save
the County Money, viz:
Obtain a list of all commutation
taxpayers in the county; notify them
that if they pay their tax the first
of January it will be $3.00; Ist of
March, $4.00; first of May, $5.00; or
work on the public highway ten
days; this money to be paid your
clerk, who will pay to treasurer and
make report to your body once every
month, amount paid in, balance due
and list of ones desiring to work
on highway. Have a fixed price for
jail road overseers. You can hire all
you want for one dollar per day.
Have your clerk furnish you every
meeting day a statement of your
last month’s expenditures and for
what purposes. We should further
suggest that you buy your supplies
Quarterly, and from the lowest bid
der. Have your clerk make you a
list of what you will need every
three months and advertise for bids.
This will cut out Macon trips and
also give your merchants and farm
ers a chance to furnish these sup-1
■nlies. When any one presents a i
bill to your board let it clearly state I
wiiat it. is for in detail.
We do not make these suggestions j
with any intention to dictate, but as
citizens acquainted with the condi
tion' of affairs, who desire all un
necessary expenditures stopped.
The law states positively that one
fund shall not be used to satisfy
’he indebtedness of another This ■
board continually fails to observe
same. See Section No. 407, V 01.,.
