We deprecate, nothing more than
the selfish spirit cf sec*”- - -• —the
kind of sect* . vnai supports the
inferior candidate just because he
happens to be of a certain particular
section. At all time the fitness and
character of a man and the principles
he advocates should have weight rath
er than any narrow sectarian spirit.
With this in mind, it seems we have
a candidate who is asking the sup
port of the voters who deserves our
l . • k U on. In the natural course
vs things Georgia must have a gov
c rnor. Getting down to honest facts,
yeihaps each of the candidates has
much in his favor. From the evi
•lence, we should seek to elect the
the man who will serve the best in
terest of the people of Georgia. Who
this man may be is a question for
the serious consideration of each in
dividual.
Mr. Pope Brown has a pretty good
record. He stands well in his com
munity. He has made good. We be
lieve he advocates those principles
that will best promote the welfare of
Georgia. If so he is entitled to our
earnest consideration. And not in a
sectarian spirit, but because we be
lieve he at least measures up to the
standard of the other candidates. We
would like for South Georgia to claim
the chief executive of the State this
time.
However, we shall listen to all sides
of the question and watch with in
terest what promises to be an inter
esting campaign.
Reasons Why
YOU SHOULD HAVE AN ACCOUNT WITH
The Irwinton Bank
J^ecauss
IT HELPS MY CREDIT TO PAY MY BILLS WITH CHECKS ON THE BANK AND CREATES A FAVORA
BLE IMPRESSION AMONG BUSINESS MEN, AS THEY NEVER KNOW HOW MUCH LARGER 1 COULD
MAKE THE CHECK.
Because
'T SETS MY FAMILY A GOOD EXAMPLE AND SHOWS THEM THAT i„ HAVE THEIR WELFARE AT
HEART, BY TAKING CARE OF MY MEANS.
Because
! DO NOT ENDANGER THE LIVES OF MY FAMILY OR MY OWN BY HAVING THE REPUTATION OF A
MAN WHO KEEPS HIS MONEY IN HIS POCKET OR HIDES IT ABOUT HIS HOME. I BELIEVE FUNDS
ARE SAFER IN THE BANK THAN IN MY POCKET OR AT HOME.
Because
IT WILL HOLD ME UP WHEN I AM SICK OR OUT OF WORK.
Because
/. bank account creates a desire and pride to make It as large as possible, and it is wise for all of us to pro
vide for the “RAINY DAY” which conies sooner or later.
Because
If ’ nay iny debts by drawing check on the bank, the check must be endorsed before the bank will pay it, and
then it becomes a legal receipt tor my money paid. No one can claim 1 did not pay them, as 1 can show their
endorsement on the check which paid the debt.
Because
If I keep a good account with the bank and meet with some disaster and do not have sufficient money for
my purpose, the bank feels under obligations to loan me money, if 1 can secure them. The bank will nearly al
ways lend its depositors money when refusing to make loans to other people.
Because ' „
It gives me a standing at home which can come In no other way. I am not regarded as one of “the ne’er
dp wells'’ of the community, not able to have a bank account, or as one of the suspiciously ignorant, who are
opposed to all advanced civilization.
Ilecause
If I have an account, the officers and directors of the bank appreciate the confidence I place in them, and
they are always willing to give me advice on business matters, in which they are often experts. They are
sometimes well versed in commercial law; and their advice is free to their customers. It pays me to be
on good terms with a polite, clever, capable banker.
Because
Ido not give the wrong change and always have f^e right change. lam not tempted to buy things be
cause I have the money in my pocket. It systematizes my affairs and enables me to run my business in
stead of it running me. I see our beet and most successful business men with bank accounts. I believe my
home bank is solvent, conservative and courteous and to be composed of honorable and worthy men.

Some while ago I had occasion to
interview a prominent business man
at one of the most progressive towns.
I remarked, “Mr. Blank, you certain
ly have one of the best towns in Geor
gia,” which was the truth. This town
at one time vzas a by-word. The gen
tleman replied: “Yes, sir. I will tell
you the secret of it. The school built
this town.” Which was also true.
The same thing could happen at
Irwinton. This is not a dream, but
a positive certainty. Have you ever
thought of what an ideal place for a
school. It has everything in its favor
—speaking of location, situation and
the like. Perhaps the people who
have lived here all their lives become
so accustomed to the natural beauty
on all sides that they forget it. You
have never known a traveling man to
fail to appreciate the scenic beauty,
unless he was infested with the
grouch germ. But it is not the pur
pose of this paper to dwell upon the
natural beauty of Irwinton. Suffi
cient is it for us to say that tho
beauty of the place is just ideal for
cultivating the aesthetic tastes. But
there are many other reasons.
Irwinton is peculiarly deficient in
the civil alurements and inducements
of many places. A happy, refined peo
ple of finest trye are its inhabitants.
Then the health record is second to
none in the State. Then, what is
lacking in making old Talmadge In
stitute a school, an institution that
would’be an influence that no man
could estimate? Nothing but some
enthusiasm and a thorough co-opera
tion on the part of everyone. But I
believe that an awakening is the nec
essary thing. It is not so much a
lack of co-operation, as a lack of start
ing a movement and injecting enough
life into it to prove a success. It is
true that there is always some one
who falls a victim to the grouch germ,
but generally speaking the people here
are one big family, a unit for the up
lift of the community.
I speak sincerely. I believe you
know I love the town and people. I
want to see better conditions in the
the school.

Announcements
To the Voters of the Dublin Judicial
Circuit:
I am a candidate for the office of
solicitor general of the Dublin judi
cial circuit, subject to the result of
the primary election to be held in
! 1912, In event of my election I. shall
strive to discharge the duties of the
office rigidly, impartially and faithful
ly-
I believe that a solicitor should pros
ecute the rich and the poor, the high
and low alike. No man’s money, nor
I his social or political standing should
1 he used to defeat the ends of justice;
i :hat all who violate the law should be
! made to endure its penalty.
i lam in favor of abolishing the fee
system, placing solicitor generals on
salary, running the courts with dis
patch and economy, strict and due en
forcement of the law, rigid obser
vance of the election law, stamping
out and forever obliterating the use of
liquor and money in elections; a heal
thy sentiment that is the exponent of
the majesty and supremacy of law
and good government.
I respectfully solicit the suffrage
of all the voters of the circuit.
Yours truly,
E. L. STEPHENS.
