The Houston County
Extension Office leadership
is asking parents of chil
dren. from kindergarten to
fourth grade, to sign their
youngsters up now for the
annual Extension Summer
Camp sponsored by Fort
Valley State University.
According to Leon Porter,
County Extension Program
Assistant, the yearly 4-H
Sprouts’ Summer Camp
will be held June 21-June
25, on the campus for
FVSU.
This year’s camp will fea
ture educational activities
including: learning about
wildlife, classes on building
self esteem, a “Life on the
Farm" program, swimming
classes and instruction on
good manners.
Recreational activities
planned for the camp will
include arts and crafts,
swimming, and organized
sports activities such as
volleyball, baseball and
basketball.
The registration deadline
is June 12. However, par
ents are asked to register

Beltista Club members
met at the Northside Drive
home of Paula Geiger May
4 for an enjoyable buffet
catered by Sara Jo McLean
of Macon.
This combination final
meeting of the year/dinner
has caught on since last
year and replaces the
spring luncheon.
Hors d’oeuvres were
from the recent local cook
books by Nelle Shelton and
Episcopal Church women
of St. Christopher’s-at-the-
Crossroads. Both books
were available for pur
chase.
During a business meet
ing that followed dinner,
officers for 1999/2000
were announced.
They are President Marti
Bloodworth, Vice President
Ella Ann Lawson,
Secretary Paula Geiger,
Treasurer Mitzi Sexton and
Parliamentarian Jackie
Klein.
Year 2000 Spring Home
and Garden Show
Chairman is Hazel Patton.
After a successful 1999
show, donations were

Cheese Straws
1 stick butter
1 \ C. flour
1 % tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
'U tsp. cayenne pepper
2 C. grated New York
State sharp Cheddar
cheese (1/2 lb.)
Soften butter do
not melt. Mix with dry
ingredients, then add
cheese.
After ingredients are
thoroughly mixed,
take a small piece of
dough and roll into a
little ball. Place on an
ungreased cookie
sheet and press flat
with back of a fork to
make a finger shaped
wafer.
Bake in a 350
degree oven for 15 to
20 minutes or until
golden-colored. (They
should not be allowed
to brown, but you
want them to be
crisp.)
These will keep a
long time in an air
tight container, but
will also freeze well for
longer storage.
