Linda P. Brady, an expert on foreign pol
icy and chair of the Sam Nunn School of
International Affairs at Georgia Tech, was
the guest speaker at the May 10 meeting of
the Perry Rotary Club.
Brady, who spoke on United States and
NATO policy actions in the Balkans, was

Her areas of concern were that “the
United States has failed to accurately
assess, in a timely way. the impact of
events in the Balkans on America’s nation
al interests’, that “the United States has
failed to reach a political consensus on the
price we are willing to pay to achieve our
objectives" and that “the United States
failed to consider the strategic or regional
implications of military action."

While she did not claim that the NATO
bombing campaign caused the refugee cri
sis, she argued that the American and
NATO allies “clearly failed to anticipate the
magnitude of the flow of refugees from
Kosovo into Albania and Macedonia and to
plan for that event."
Brady said she was encouraged by the
Russian initiative to bring about a diplo
matic ending to the current crisis.
At the meeting, which was held at the
New Perry Hotel, it was reported that the
club raised over $1,300 through the Mossy
Creek Festival, and that SII,OOO has been
sent to Operation Smile, with is a program
to provide dented care for children.
