Congratulations to Ethel Ellis on her
80th birthday April 16. Her surprise party
a week later was truly unexpected. Son
Alton picked her up for dinner out with him
and Baby Melanie whom they were to fetch
at Rozar Park Community Center.
That’s where the party was already in
progress and Ethel was surprised and
shocked almost into fainting. When she
regained her composure, she was greeted
by all of her grandchildren: Matt, twins
Heather of Kissimmee who’s getting mar
ried soon and Brant of Cordele, Todd from
Maine where he’s in the Navy and his wife
and three little boys.
Members of her First Baptist Church
Dorcas Sunday School Class and a host of
friends were also on hand for birthday cake
and party foods and to see to it that Ethel
had the time of her life.

Barbara Jones was hostess at her cen
trally located historical Evergreen Street
home May 16 for a family reunion of the
Coleman/Rogers families. The 20-plus
group met in the afternoon for dessert and
lots of good conversation on the front porch
and all through Barbara's comfortable
home.
Nina Rogers Harper was among the
group as a local family member.

Meanwhile up the street Bob and Becky
Largent entertained family and friends of
their daughter Donna Rosner who received
her undergraduate degree in middle grades
education May 12 from Georgia
Southwestern State University. A husband
with an Air Force career, Jeff now with the
Perry Police Department, and three chil
dren, Beau, Savannah and Austin, some
what delayed Donna’s degree.
Her longtime friend, Julie Johnson of
Edina. Minn., who began college with her
some 15 years ago at North Dakota State.
University flew in to serve punch at the
party. Her brother, Scott Largent, flew in
from Clinton. Mo., just for the occasion.
This spunky little well-educated mom
hopes to teach in Houston County after a
summer of fun with her children. She’s
now right in the middle of softball season
at Rozar Park coaching Savannah’s team.

the Perry Main Street offices and no longer
has that commute. Sometime later this
summer the local offices will be moving to
a new building on Ga. 96.

The wedding of Kendall George snd Jeff
Beasley May 15 may very well be the last
wedding to be held in the historic Perry
Presbyterian Church sanctuary. Completed
in 1849 downtown, on the site now occu
pied by The Inside Scoop, the church was
moved to its Second Street location in 1958
and is soon to be replaced by the almost
complete brick structure next-door.
When Kendall said she wanted to have
her wedding in Houston County where her
grandparents, Arthur and Marge White and
Johnny and Nell George, and her aunts
and unites and cousins live, it delighted
her mother Ann White George to come
home to Perry. The wife of an Air Force offi
cer who’s lived many places didn’t realize
they might make history. She just knew
she would be with those she grew up with
and love.
The small church was filled to the brim
with the wedding party and guests who
then moved along to fill the Fairview Room
for the lively reception. Eyecatching was
the decorative watermelon whale center
piece carved by her dad, Mike, Just like the
ones Kendall always asked him to carve for
her birthdays, a childhood tradition.
After they honeymoon in Bermuda.
Kendall and Jeff will be at home for the
summer in Colorado Springs.

Howard and Rachel Wooden have
returned to their Todd Road home from a
trip to Spokane for the May 9 golden wed
ding anniversary of Howard’s sister, Wilna
and Jack Williamson who married in
Jeffersonville. Two low weather records of
22 degrees and light snow were refreshing
but cause for wearing the Jackets they took
along.
The Woodens visited their Warner Robins
High School Class of '54 classmates Hubert
and Pat Harley who live in a large moun
tain home. Their deck overlooks most of
Spokane. Not able to attend their 45th
reunion this summer, the Harleys plan to
come back for the fiftieth.

FASHION SHOW Students and
facility members at Middle Georgia
Technical School recently presented
a fashion show with an unusual
twist. The theme of the show was
"Dress for Success for Less", and all
fashions were from Goodwill Stores in
Warner Robins and Macon. Prices for
the clothes , including work outfits,
summer sports clothes and formal
attire, ranged from $5 to S2O. The
purpose of the show, according to the
instructor Barbara Young, who
served as announcer, was to show
“that you don't have to spend-rrfor
tune to look like a million dollars."
Graduates face
a big world out there.
Make it smaller.
