Ragin. one of four Geor
gians chosen for the honor,
is a sophomore at Perry
High School. He is the son
of Wayne and Patrice Ragin
of Perry.
The new HOBY Ambas
sador to the World Leader
ship Congress was chosen
from a field of 300 candi
dates, he said. The selection
came during the annual
HOBY conference in Atlanta.

Leadership conducts three
day leadership seminars
each year for outstanding
high school sophomores
across the country. Ragin
said the purpose of the
seminar is to recognize and
develop student potential
by development of critical
thinking and leadership
skills.

Tucker and Perry elemen
tary schools are bused to
the middle school for the
program, which took place
this year on May 12, 13, 19
and 20.
Upon arriving at the
Perry Middle School, the
fifth graders and their
teachers were met by
selected eighth graders and
escorted to the media cen
ter.

ment to represent Perry
High."
After being chosen to
represent PHS, Ragin
attended the Atlanta con
ference. His interaction
with the various groups
and his belief of “being a
leader is an experience that
offers many positive chal
lenges" helped him achieve
the Ambassador position.
During an impromptu
interview May 15, the com
mittee, deciding the final
ists for the World Leader
ship Congress, asked Ragin
if he could speak with any
one in history who would
he choose and why.
Ragin thought briefly on
the subject and answered,
"Mother Theresa for her
leadership and service to so
many, for so long in India.”
In addition to attending
the Philadelphia conference

The students were shown
a video. ‘Welcome to Perry
Middle School”, which was
produced by sixth grade
students.
They were then divided
into small groups and given
a tour of the building by the
eighth grade students.
After touring the school,
they gathered in the lunch
room for refreshments, and
then were entertained in
gym by the school chorus
and band.

believes that “everyone

their community.
