Aurelia Evans recalls
being baptized into the fel
lowship of the Perry Baptist
Church the second Sunday
in June, 1911. She is now
housebound because of her
age and health, has lost lots
of her vision and hobbles
instead of walking.
However, she has a very
clear mind and is witness to
what God can do for any
one. She appreciates the
friends who have helped her
over many rough times.
Each week she patiently
waits for her daughter
Martha Green of Dublin to
visit and read the Houston
Home Journal to her.

Congratulations to Ihe

and very gratefully received.

School.
He was one of the speak

Graham will attend Geor

computer science. He and
his soccer teammate will be
roommates in one of the
new dorms built for the
1996 Summer Olympics.
The Grahams’ California

done them proud. The
daughter of their son has a
Ph.D. in psychology and his

Marty Myers’ Helping
Hand Animal Shelter got its
name from Adam Smith’s
1976 book The Wealth of
Nations. It is located at
Grant & Myers Farm Sup
ply on Jernigan Street.
Dogs are in a pen on the
outside and kittens are in
cages inside the store. It is
operated in the black on
donations taken in a cup at
the counter and a fund rais
er punch board.
People leaving litters pay
for inoculations and worm
ing if they can. Drs. Ben
and Felix Smith go way out
of their way to give rabies
shots at their cost to dogs
more than two months old.
Pound Puppy Report will
also begin to carry Marty’s
pick of Sie pen. This week it
is a border collie, one-year
old purebred but without
papers, smart and sweet,
would be great out in the
country where could use
inbred instinct to herd live
stock.

By JOAN DORSETT

Ray and Marjilu Mims
are enjoying a visit with
their eight-year-old grand
son. John Heath “Buddy”
Wilson, son of their daugh
ter Robin of Holly Springs,
N.C., a suburb of Raleigh.
Buddy and Ray are
doing lots of fishing and I’ll
bet he helps Ray in his gar
den.
Squash are “coming in"
and it’s time to put up
pickles. Marjilu makes
wonderful squash pickles,
and fortunately surgery in
April and weekly treat
ments since haven’t
“squashed’' her ability or
her desire to be in the
kitchen. She makes them
sound so easy.
Pickled Squash
8 cups squash, thinly
sliced
1 green pepper, chopped
4 medium onions, thinly
sliced
1 T. salt
11/4 cup sugar
1 cup white vinegar
1/2 t. mustard seeds
1 /2 t. celery seeds
Place squash, pepper
and onion in pan. Spread
salt over. Mix well. Cover
with ice and let stand one
hour.
Bring to boil vinegar,
sugar, mustard seeds and
celery seeds.

Pan fry the fish in a little

The total cooking time will

This recipe also works
