Experts: Many kids’ car seats installed improperly
By CHARLOTTE PERKINS
Home Jourwal STArr
Is your child’s car seat
safe? Is it installed correct
ly?
Before you answer, con
sider two facts:
More than 17,000 chil
dren’s carseats have been
recalled by the federal gov
ernment.
At a recent safety check
point in Perry, volunteers
checked seats against the
recall list, and also checked
the installation of the
seats. By mid-morning
they had only found one
carseat that met all criteria
for safety, and had found
20 which were on recall or
were too unsafe to continue
using. Those parents
received free new carseats
on the spot.
The “friendly check”,
held at the Kroger parking
lot, was the culmination of
several days of training for
Safe Kids workers from
across Georgia.
