Baptist youth bring ‘World Changer’
mission program home to Perry
By CHARLOTTE PERKINS
Horn: Journal Staff
With school just out, some teen-agers
may have been sleeping late on Monday
morning, but Miranda Garren and Mary
Anne Millender were on the job by 8 a.m.
this week
What job? The job of making some sub
stantial improvements at a Gardner Street
home of Rebecca Luster, known to the
young people through her work as cook for
First Baptist Church of Perry.
Under the direction of Youth Minister
Bobby Nix, a team of 29 young people
started a week-long project on Monday,
which will include tearing off the old roof
ing , replacing the roof and installing storm
windows at Luster’s home.
According to Jimmy Connell, a deacon at
the church, “It won’t cost her anything
not a dime.”

off Rebecca Luster’s home so that they can replace it.
As part of the “World Changers” pro
gram, members of the youth group have
taken trips as far away as Michigan in the
past to undertake similar projects, but this
summer they have decided to keep their
mission in Perry.
Even though the work is hard, their spir
its are high.
“1 like getting out and helping people,”
Miranda Garren explained.
Mary Anne Millender put it this way:
“People who are really blessed should go
out and help others."
Kyle Harold called the effort, “being a
witness for Christ," and Ginnie Brown
said, “It’s nice to be able to do something
for someone else."
Instead of “World Changers”, they’re
calling themselves the “Perry Changers”
this summer.
