Jesselyn Griggs Dole
Jesselyn Griggs Dole, 83,
of San Clemente, Calif.,
died June 11, 1999 in a
San Clemente hospital.
Memorial services will be
held at St. Andrews By the
Sea on June 23.
Born in Houston County,
Mrs. Griggs was a graduate
of Valdosta Women’s Col
lege and a former teacher in
Henderson. She was an
insurance underwriter in
Macon and head cashier for
Westin International in Col
orado Springs and in Cali
fornia for more than 25
years before retiring.
She is survived by her
husband, Ted Dole, and a
son. Fred Dole, both of San
Clemente; nieces, Stanford
Ellen Durrance of Peny,
Marsha Nakayama of
Aloha, Ore., Karen Martin
of Warner Robins, and Pat
Dole of Long Mountain,
Colo. She was also the sis
ter of the late Hany and
Fred Griggs, formerly of
Perry.

landing area was known as
Myrtle Field.
The facility drew atten
tion during World War II
when Myrtle Field was a
satellite field for Cochran
Field of Macon.

Peach County. She was a
homemaker and a member
of the Fort Valley United
Methodist Church.
She is survived by her

had lived in Macon for
many years. She was a
member of Cherokee
Heights United Methodist
Church, past president of
Green Thumb Garden Club,
a board and lifetime mem
ber of Federated Garden
Clubs of Georgia. She
served as president of sev
eral PTA’s and the ABWA,
receiving many honors and
community service awards.
Mrs. Ragland and her
late husband, Jack H.
Ragland Sr., were married
for 67 years and owped
nized for their hard work in
designing the layout and
hanging the Freedom
Shrine in the courtroom of
the Periy Municipal Build
ing.
Sharp said the thanks
should go to the two men
who did all the work. They
took the initiative to “go the
extra mile” designing" the
project.

and had formerly been a
librarian for the Chat

was the widow of Burl
Quimby.
Survivors include her

four grandchildren, two
great-grandchildren and
several cousins.
