July? However, according to
Dr. Sandra Brenner, Dietit

ries are now being touted as
the new major bullet .
Blueberries are the latest
new fad in fiber and in anti
oxidents for ailments like
macular degeneration. They
are good for any condition
like cancer or heart disease
that anti-oxidents benefit.
The bilobery, a European
blueberry, is used more in
health foods but our garden
blueberries that are ready to
pick now are plenty good for
what ails you. Bet you can’t
eat just one, so here are a
couple of recipes to try.
Blueberry Yum-Yum
2 cups fresh blueberries (or
frozen)
2 cups sugar divided
1 /4 cup water
1 /4 cup cornstarch
3 T. water
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 / 2 cup oieo, softened
1 cup finely chopped pecans
1 8-oz. cream cheese, softened
1 9-oz. frozen nondairy whipped
topping
Combine blueberries, 1
cup sugar and?< cup water in
medium saucepan. Cook
over low heat until berries
are soft (about 15 min.)

Sheffield told the mem
bers, "It is great to be in
America today." However,
he stressed that with the
good times, there are many
things wrong.
"We have a bull market,
low unemployment, low
interest rates. But kids are
killing kids," said Sheffield.
“We must get involved with
our youth. There are good
youths out there. What we
need to do is recognize the
good deeds. There is noth
ing more precious than a
child."
Sheffield thanked the
club for it’s many efforts in
doing Just that. The club
not only sponsors Freedom
Shrines, but it gives funds
to various charities: Rain
bow House, PAL, Preven
tion of Child Abuse, and
needy families at Christ
mas.
In addition, the club
Combine cornstarch and
3 T. water in a small mixing
bowl; stir well. Add corn
starch mixture to blueberry
mixture; cook stirring con
stantly until thickened. Set
aside t cool.
Combine flour, oleo and
pecans in a small mixing
bowl. Mix well.
Press dough evenly in a
13x9x2 inch dish or pan.
Bake 350 degrees for 20
minutes. Cool.
Combine cream cheese
and 1 cup sugar, beat until
smooth. Fold in whipped
topping. Spread topping
evenly over cooked crust.
Pour blue berries mixture
evenly over top.
Refrigerate, cut into
squares to serve and enjoy.
Yields 15 servings.
Blueberry Salad
2 3-oz. pkgs. Concord grape
felatin
cup boiling water
1 No". 2 can crushed pineapple,
drained and juice reserved
2 cups fresh blueberries
1 /2 cup pecans
1 8 oz. pfcg. cream cheese, soft
ened
1 cup sour cream
Dissolve gelatin in water.
Add enough water to
reserved juice to make 2
cups. Add to gelatin. Add
fruits and pecans. Chill until
partially set. Blend cream
cheese and sour cream.
Drop spoonfuls of thickened
gelatin alternately with
cheese mixture into 9 x 13-
inch glass dish. Run knife in
both directions through the
mixture several times, mak
ing swirls. Chill till firm.
Yields 12-16 servings.
