Three years ago, when
Kem and Curtis Hammon
tree signed their children,
Andy and Samantha “Sam",
up for TaeKwonDo classes
they didn’t know it would
become a family affair.
"Andy and Sam began in
July, 1996," Kem Hammon
tree said. “They were given
a choice of summer activi
ties. Andy chose martial
arts, and then Sam decided
she wanted to do that also.”
Kem, who is a Boeing
employee, took the children
to classes at Perry TaeK
wonDo three or four times a
week for about four weeks,
and got interested in what
they were learning.

"They really seemed to
enjoy what they were
doing,” she said, “and it
didn’t look as complicated
as I had once thought. I
decided I would like to start
taking classes for exercise,
but I didn’t want to do it
alone. 1 asked my husband
to join me. I explained we
could use the exercise and
that this would give us an
opportunity to share with
our children. He said OK
and we joined the purple
belt program as a family in
August, 1996."
TaeKwonDo quickly
became a major family
activity. The four Hammon
trees took classes twice a
week and many Saturdays,
and also put carpet into
tant," said Abdou. He
entertained the children
