Junior League 13-14 year-olds head to Valdosta playoffs Special to the Home Joukhal The 1999 Perry Jr? League All-Stars are state play-off bound for the third straight year. This group of 13-14 year olds will travel to Valdosta July 24 to com pete with others across the state. To advance, the team Brannen second in Charlotte race Special to the Home Journal Members of the 911 car crew spent a day going over the vehicle before the team, with driver Walt Brannen of Elko, headed to Char lotte for a legends race. That time proved well spent as Brannen started his heat fifth, based on points, and moved up to finish second in the race. That finish, coupled with a handicap system, put Brannen in the fifth slot for the feature race. Again, the crew stepped in and made changes to the vehicle, including a gear change which helped Brannen keep traction on the wet track. From the start of the fea ture Brannen worked the traffic well and with all the bumping going on held onto fourth for most of the race. Perry Jr. League beat North Macon 4-1 to advance to state. In addition to winning the tournament. Perry Jr. League won the coveted sportsmanship award. lanes. Reed Sorenson who was third and Brannen who was fourth shot to the outside and raced to the finsh line with one lap remaining. Reed fmishesd in first place and Brannen held onto second spot.
