of Blackstone Va. She was
the daughter of the late
Bennie 1. Draper Sr., and
May Pulley Draper, was a
graduate of James Madison
University of Harrisonburg.

since 1945 and was the first
dietician at Robins Air

NEW RESPONSIBILITY JoAnn Shipes of Perry has
been named executive secretary to Michael Froehlich,
director of the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agri
center. Shipes, who was previously chief clerk in the
Houston County Probate Court, succeeds Kathleen
O'Neal in the position. She and her husband, Ray
Shipes. have lived in Perry since the early 1970’5. They
have a daughter, Kristen, who is attending Gordon Col
lege, and a son, Eric, who is a junior at Perry High
School.

widow of the late Gardner
Watson.
She is survived by one
daughter, Martha Lynn
Hunt of Lawrenceville; one
son. T. Draper Watson of
Perry; two granddaughters,
Laura Dance Lawton of
Charlotte, N.C. and Chris
ten Dawne Watson of Periy;
and two grandsons. Terrell
D. Watson Jr. of Birming
ham. Ala., and Travis S.
Watson of Perry.

field, died Sept. 4 at Taylor
Regional Hospital of
Hawkinsville.
Services were at Watson-
Hunt Chapel at 2 p.m. Sept.
6 with the Rev. Franklin
Clark and the Rev. Gene
McKinney officiating. Inter
ment was at Evergreen
Cemetery, Perry.
Mr. McCraven was a
native of Raleigh, Fla. He
was the son of the late
Ralph Cecil McCraven and
Lona Phinney.
He had lived in Clinch
field for 67 years. He was a
retired equipment operator
with Milton Beckham Con
struction Co. He was an
Elder Emeritus of Clinch
field Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by one

banks.

and enlightening for me
to relate with my peers
and discuss the presenta
tions throughout the
course of the meeting,"
Bowers said. “The
instructors were enjoy
able as well as inspira
tional. I was excited
about returning to my
bank and applying what I
had learned at this con
vention."

of Perry died Sept. 3 at
Summerhill Nursing Home
of Perry.
Memorial services were

Chapel Sept. 5 at 6 p.m.
A native of Toledo, Ohio,
Mrs. Norton was the daugh
ter of the late Alfred Lorenz
and Lucinda Striker Lorenz.
A homemaker, Mrs. Nor
ton moved to Perry in 1978
from Twinsburg, Ohio. She
was a member of the Perry
United Methodist Church
and the Order of the East
ern Star.
She is survived by her
husband, Robert K. Norton

Hiroshima to speak at Museum of Aviation

The explosion of the world's first atomic bomb on Aug.
6, 1945, changed the epurse of history. Gen. Paul Warfield
Tibbets Jr. and his crew llew the Enola Gav over Hiroshi
ma, and at exactly 9; 15 a.m. and 15 seconds, the world's
first atomic bomb exploded. The nature of warfare was for
ever altered.
Sept. 17, the public will have the opportunity to spend
an evening with the man who played a pivotal role in the
outcome of World War 11. The Museum of Aviation at
Robins Air Force Base will host “An evening with Gen. Paul
Tibbets" starting at 6:30 p.m. with a reception in the
Museum Century of Flight Hangar.
At 7:30 p.m., Tibbets will share his lifetime of accom
plishments. The evening will close with a book signing and
photo opportunity. Tibbets' book, "Return of the Enola
