Lady Bees sweep CFCA

offensive day Aug 30 at

Facing an obviously over
matched CFCA Lady
Lancers B-team. the Lady
Bees pounded out 46 base
hits and scored 42 runs in
the doubleheader sweep.
Every Lady Hornet had at
least one hit and scored at
least one run in both games
as Leigh Ann Johnson's
youngsters posted 25-2 and
17-3 wins. Included in the
array of base hits were four
doubles and nine triples.
Westfield set the tempo
for things to come by scor
ing seven times in the first
inning of game one, then
posted at least two runs in
every inning, including nine
in the fifth.
Lindsey Williamson
recorded a four-for-four
performance in game one,
with three runs scored and
three driven in. Among her
hits was one of the Lady
Hornets' four triples in the
game.
Williamson had plenty of
help. Katie Stewart, Aman
da Murph. Katie Yelton and
Perry Middle School opens with
Rumble, Northside in softball action

Perry Middle School’s
softball teams got in a little
early competition last week
as they competed in two
exhibition games against
Rumble and Northside Mid
dle.
Seventh grade coach
Melissa Lee was especially
impressed oy tne perfor
mance of starting pitcher
and catcher Amanda Tuck
er and Heather Morrill, nei
ther of whom had played
fast pitch before this year.
“They are both smart and
aggressive and doing very
well. Both the girls got a lit
tle tired at the end." said
Lee. "But I asked them to
bang with me a little while
longer. Some of the best
pitches came at the end of
the game.”
The Panther Bth grade
team lost to their first game
to Northside Middle 16-14
out beat Rumble 9-8.
“After the loss to North
side. I told them there was
most 1 wanted to see out of
them than a win. “ said Bth
grade coach Elizabeth Har
rison.
Both coaches agreed that
the two teams were com
prised of “a great group of
girls”.
"They have just clicked,”
said Lee. “Right off the bat
hey have been a team."

The rout continued in
game two as the Lady Hor
nets again jumped out to a
commanding lead in the
first inning with six runs.
Scoring in every' inning
but the fourth, Westfield
put up a 17-3 victory, with
Murph picking up her sec
ond win on the mound.
Stewart had her second
three-hit game, as did
Murph. Williamson also
had three hits, giving the
third baseman seven-for
eight afternoon with four
runs batted in and two
triples.
Murph collected six hits
in eight at-bats and had a
team-leading six runs bat
ted in for the doubleheader.
Cynthia James, who was
four for eight at the plate,
led the team with six runs
scored while Dean and
Williamson tallied five each.
Brittany Sullivan hit two
of her team's triples. Ann
Adams had two triples and
a double.
The Lady Hornets play'
Sept 8 (today) at Tiftarea.

Perry followed the next
night with a 10-8 win over
Jones County, a team that
they have lost to twice this
season.
“It was an extra game but
a good win for us," said
Perry coach Kristi Horsting.
“It was the first time in
about six years a Perry
team had beat them."
The Panthers only loss of
the week was 5-2 against
West Laurens.
“They got on a roll," said
Horsting of the West Lau
rens team. “We were worn
out from the long week.
Neither team hit well, it was
a defensive game.”
The Lady Panthers
Junior Varsity also played
four games' during the
week. Against Washington
County, the JV won 14 : 8.
The JV beat Bleckley 15-
14. The JV lost to Jones
County 10-4, their first loss
of the season.
Perry's JV also fell to
West Laurens 13->6.
The Panthers go to Dodge
County and Bleckley this
week. Perry's last home
game of the regular season
will be Sept. 16 at Rozier
Park.

Hornets went on the
road for the second time
in five days and came
away with another
impressive split, this
time against perennial
class AA contender
Gatewood at Eatonton
Aug 31.
Westfield took the lead
in game one with a two
spot in the first inning
as Rachel Moore and
Julee Todd scored on
hits by Stephanie Bur
deshaw and Hanna Bar
rett. Todd's hit was a
double, the others were
singles.
After Gatewood had
eased ahead 3-2. the
Lady Hornets came back
with a three run sixth to
reclaim the lead, and
they held on for a 5-4
victory, their second win
in a row and fifth of the
season.
In the decisive sixth
inning. Burdeshaw was
on oase with her second
hit of the game and Bar
rett followed with her
second.

After Moore doubled.
Todd lifted a sacrifice fly
to right field to score
Thompson. The Hornets
could do no further
damage, and Gatewood
came back to score four
times in their half of the
third to increase the lead
to 6-1.
The Lady Hornets
wouldn’t quit. Peake led
off the fourth with a
double, then Dudley sin
gled her to third. Peake
scored as Gatewood
turned the first of their
two double plays in the
game.
The Lady Hornets'
final two runs came in
the fifth. Thompson led
off the inning with a
double and Moore fol
lowed with her third hit
of the game and sixth
straight for the day.
With one out, Burde
shaw’s single scored
Thompson and after a
walk to Barrett, Peake’s
sacrifice fly scored Moore
with Westfield's final run
of the game in the 7-4
Gatewood victory.
Moore had three hits,
Thompson two including
a double, and Burde
shaw two for Westfield.
The Lady Hornets
meet Windsor in a region
