The Rev. Larry Wood,
husband of Harold
Flournoy’s daughter
Sandy, preached a sweet,
personal funeral service for
his father-in-law, “Grand
daddy” of 15, at First Bap
tist Church Sept. 5. He
said though you would not
find his name in the social
register or in the church
minutes in leadership
positions, you would find
consistent check marks of
presence in Sunday School
and constant faith and love
for his large family.
Harold's nephew Allen
Wood sang “His Eye Is On
The Sparrow.”
The cattle farmer in Elko
suffered from heart and
lung disease and had been
hospitalized for several
months. Memorials may be
made to Perry Hospital,
1120 Morningside Drive,
Perry 31069.

meeting of Perry Kiwanis
Club. He gave a detailed
account of his serious car

that kept his heart going
until he had to be evaluat

The heart of a 36-year

Perry said goodbye to a
beautiful lady in funeral
services for Gladys Culpep
per Sept. 13 at Perry First
Baptist Church. The 95-
year-old family matriarch
was remembered by the
Rev. Bobby Nix, Horace
Woodruff and The Rev. Dr.
Gene Bowman in words
that blessed hearts and in
song by Ron Moore. The
following message given to
her niece Jo Alice Moody
Hamrick was read by her
nephew Woody Moody:
“From Aunt Gladys to
her city, her friends and
her family on 11 /16/95,
“Most of you know me by
name, but a lot of you
don’t know me. I want you
to become acquainted with
my past.
“I lived in Perry for 65
years, and I dearly loved
Perry. I saw Perry grow
from about 1,000 people to
a bigger, more beautiful
city. We still have a lot of
Perryites. and many fine
people from all over have
made Perry their retire
ment home. I have been
grateful for them and I
Continued from page IB
hope they love it as much
as I have.
“We have many churches
now. Originally, there were
three. When I was younger
there were the Baptist, the
Methodist, and the Presby
terian. The many churches
today speak for them
selves. May the Lord con
tinue to bless you and lead
you in the path of His
righteousness.
“We have been blessed
with many good leaders
who have governed our
city. We have had fewer
crimes of any city our size.
We have had growth and
beauty all around us and
have been blessed with
capable leaders these 65
years. Perry has continued
to grow and select people of
high caliber to lead us. I
pray that the Lord will con
tinue to bless you in lead
ership for Perry.
“Now I’d like you to know
about me. I was born into a
large family with 9 chil
dren. My family were farm
ers and they were the “salt
of the earth." They were
good Christian people of
the Primitive Baptist faith
better known to you as
Hard Shell Baptists.
Of the 9 children, I was
the only one left on the
Earth for a long time. We
were a close family. We
were taught from the
beginning about our Lord,
and 1 felt they did a very
good job. We all attended
church as a family and
were well respected in our
community wherever we
lived.
“I have had many dear
friends whom I dearly
loved. Since 1 have lived
alone, after A 1 passed
away, they were my “Rock
of Gibraltar”, always there
for me whenever 1 needed
them.
"1 cannot say enough
about my lovely family who
have been my salvation on
this Earth; Always there:
Ready and willing finan
cially and physically: Will
ing to do anything for my
well-being and my plea
sure. I’m sure that many of
you know them personally,
and those that don’t have
truly missed something. I
cannot express the love
that I have had for my dear
friends and my loved ones -
my family. That the Lord
may continue to bless each
and every one is my prayer
for you all."
