Hornets
Joel Stevens. Stephen Baxter and
Patrick Harris dominated the line of
scrimmage, opening holes for Jones
and other Hornet runners.
Nathan Skinner kicked both first
quarter extra points to make the score
14-0, Just 2 1/2 minutes into the
game.
It didn’t get any easier for the
Eagles. Don Walker making the stop
three straight plays, including the
kickoff return. The Eagles went to the
air on third down, but the Hornets'
Will Sexton read the play perfectly and
stepped in front of Jeremiah Lockhart
at the Sherwood 43 and made the
interception for Westfield.
Five plays later, after their first two
first downs of the game, the Hornets
scored again, this time on Jacob Walk
er's 13th touchdown of the season.
The PAT kick was wide, but West
field took a 20-0 lead with 4 1/2 min
utes remaining in the first quarter.
Sherwood marked their only first
down of the first half on their next
possession a 10-yard run by fresh
man wingback B.J. Pointevint.
Kyle Harold. Don Walker and
Michael Giles then closed the door,
forcing another Britt Sellers punt.
After his 30-yarder rolled dead at the
Westfield 21-yard line, the Hornets
quickly marched the 79 yards in just
four plays to take a 27-0 lead on the
second play of the second quarter.

pass to John Curtiss Gibbs for 22
yards. Holt gained nine years, then
Jacob Walker bolted for 48 yards. On
his way. Walker broke through two
Sherwood defenders at the 33-yard
line and outran the secondary to the
richt corner of the end zone for the
score. Skinner converted the PAT.
An exchange of possessions later.
Weir was forced to punt for the only
time of the game. Kicking from his
own 46-yard line, Weir kicked it dead
at the Sherwood 4-yard line. The half
ended with Westfield ahead 27-0.
Sherwood’s offensive woes contin
ued in the second half as Jones,
Harold, Don Walker and Kent Keener
kept the pressure on, holding the
Eagles to just one yard in three plays.
And just as in the first half, the West
field offense wasted little time in going
to work. Holding the ball for 4:43 in a
9-play drive, Westfield got three first
downs before Holt went over for the
score after a Sherwood penalty put the
ball on the 2-yard line. Skinner’s k ick
was again good, and the Hornets led
34-0
Cole Carter, Will Sexton and Kent
Keener were again instrumental in
shutting down the Eagles’ offense, and
forced a Sellers punt. After a clipping
call wiped out what would have been
another Jacob Walker touchdown, the
Hornets put the ball in play at the
Sherwood 34-yard line. Jones picked
up 6 yards, then Holt got another first
down at the Sherwood 19. After Mark
Hulbert carried to the 13, Cole Dun
years, Jackson has but five
seniors on the 1999 squad.
