Multiple parades highlight Fair days

Fair/Farm Ctty Days Parade Is

sor be parade. This year's theme
is 'A Parted Ten.'
Executive Director of the
Georgia National Fairgrounds and
Agricanter, Mike Froehbch, said,.

The parade will line up in front
oi Perry City Hall at 9 ajn.,
Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999. The
parade begins at 10 ajn.
Bill Hafley, Parade
Coordinator, said, 'The parade
will start an hour earlier this year.
This will be better in terms oi traf
fic - fairgoers trying to get into
the fairgrounds/

The route takes be parade
through downtown Perry on
Carroll Street; out General
Courtney Hodges Blvd. and
through be North Gate of be
Georgia National Fairgrounds on
Larry Walker Parkway. The
parade will continue through the
fairgrounds and exit at be East
Gate.
Tt is about two rteies/ said
Hafley, adding be parade mem
bers needing to be picked up or
divest themselves of instruments,
horses, and such could arrange far
pick up at be East Gate.
Hafley has a keen understand
ing of the parade. He has been be
parade coordinator for several
years.
The Kiwanis Club started the
parade 20 years ago. We called it
be Farm City Days Parade. Ten
years ago, we combined wib be
Georgia National Fair/ said Halley.
He added, *lt was designed to rec
ognize and salute be farm and city
partnership which contributes to
be wealth, strength, growth, and
progress of Georgia.*
However, Hafley is not the only
person putting be parade together.
He noted, *fi takes many people.
Two people who really are work
ing hard on bis project are Emmet
Whelchel and Robert Brown.
Emmet helps organize the partici
pants at be site. Bobert does all
the administrative things: letters,
jjpxes, calk, and such,* said Hafley.
The parade has 40 entries and
more are committing to be
parade each day. The parade will

Cars, corvettes, floats from vari
ous businesses, trucks, tractors,
and bands. The Perry High School
marching band and the Pembroke
Jr. High Band are scheduled to
perform.

Air Force Base, circus acts from
